Instructions for use
For your safety
Strictly follow the Instructions for use. Any use of the apparatus requires full
understanding and strict observation of these instructions. The apparatus is only
to be used for purposes specified here.
Maintenance: Only authentic Dräger spare parts may be used for maintenance.
We recommend that you take out a service contract with Dräger Service.
Liability for proper function or damage: The liability for the proper function of
the apparatus is irrevocably transferred to the owner or operator to the extent
that the apparatus is serviced or repaired by personnel not employed or
authorized by DrägerService or if the apparatus is used in a manner not
conforming to its intended use. Dräger cannot be held responsible for damage
caused by non-compliance with the recommendations given above. The
warranty and liability provisions of the terms of sale and delivery of Dräger are
likewise not modified by the recommendations given above.

Intended use
These instructions for use apply for the following basic equipment versions:
Configurations of the ABIL-R with half masks meet the requirements of
specific device class 2B.
Configurations of the ABIL-R with full face masks meet the requirements of
specific device class 4B.
The compressed air line breathing apparatus of series ABIL-R is designed for
use in the trades, industry and agriculture. It protects the respiratory organs
against the effects of harmful substances.
The apparatus is tested to EN 14594:2005.
It is marked "F" and suitable for use in inflammable atmospheres
Description
The compressed air line breathing apparatus ABIL-R comprises
1–2 Full-face mask, breathing hose
5 Basic apparatus
6–11 Compressed air supply
Various facepieces from the Dräger range can be used for the mask,
see "Order list".
The basic apparatus comprises
3 Belt unit (waist belt with manifold)
4 Hose
5 Manifold, if applicable
6–11 Compressed air supply
Depending on the purpose for which the apparatus is used, the belt unit
may be as follows:
A From a compressed air mains through compressed air fine filters or
the filter station (4, 5, 6, 7, 10),
B From a compressed air cylinder via pressure reducer (4, 5, 8, 9),
C From a mobile compressed air source, e.g. Airpack, Quad Pack
(4, 5, 11)
Depending on the purpose for which the apparatus is used, the belt unit may be
used as follows:
ABIL-R-1
Features an inlet for the compressed air supply hose (maximum length 50 m and
with a maximum of 2 hoses) and an outlet for connecting the breathing hose (and
full-face mask).
The air flow can be adjusted to the demand via an integrated control valve. The
control valve cannot be closed completely and must not be used as shutoff
valve.

ABIL-R-2
As ABIL-R-1, but with additional port for connecting equipment, e.g. paint spray
gun. This port must not be used
to connect a second demand valve or
to connect the Y-piece R 27 945.
The manifold can be worn on either the right or left-hand side of the waist.
Turn the clip when changing over.

Before use, ensure that the air source can supply the planned
number of users with breathing air (see IfUs of the supply units).
WARNING
!
In certain highly toxic atmospheres, the respiratory protective
device does not provide adequate protection.
The respiratory protective device does not protect against
radioactive radiation.
If the work is very intense, the pressure in the facepiece may
become negative due to the maximum inhalation air flow.
If ABIL-R is used with a mobile compressed air supply unit, a
helper has to be there to inform the user and tell him to stop
working if the remaining pressure warning of the supply unit is
activated.
The operator has to ensure that accidental coupling of the ABIL-
R air supply system to other pipe systems that contain other
gases than breathing air is not possible.
Use
Alternative A (supply from a stationary breathing air network (loop)):
3 Put on belt unit. Adjust length if necessary.
4 Connect compressed air supply hose (maximum length 50 m) to
manifold:
Press coupling halves together until they engage.
Note for your own safety:
Check that the connection is tight by pulling on the air line.
Before every use, check that the hose connection to the housing
is screwed tight (do not use tools).
10 Connect compressed air fine filter or filter station to compressed air
supply hose.
5 If necessary, insert Y-piece for supplying a second user of the
apparatus.
7 Connect the compressed air line (maximum length 3 m) to the
compressed air fine filter or the filter station and stationary breathing
air network.
Start up compressed air supply system (8 bar).

2 Connect breathing hose to manifold.

1 Put on full-face mask and connect to breathing hose.
3 Set required air flow on control valve.
The compressed air line breathing apparatus is ready for use.
Only use respiratory air conforming to EN 12 021.
The apparatus can only be used without risk at temperatures < 0 °C
if steps are taken to ensure that the compressed air being used also
conforms to EN 12 021 with regard to the moisture content

(< 50 mL/m depressurized air).
Alternative B (compressed air supplied from a cylinder):
As alternative A, but
9 Connect pressure reducer to
compressed air cylinder.
Must be connected by hand, do not use
tools.
Connect compressed air supply hose to
pressure reducer.
8 Open valve on compressed air cylinder
and read off value on pressure gauge.
Always use a full compressed air cylinder.
The pressure reducer should be set to 8 bar. Proceed as follows if
adjustment is necessary:
Connect compressed air line breathing apparatus to the plug-in

coupling.
Undo lock nut, set value with adjusting screw then retighten lock nut.

