THE PROTOTYPE
When a number of Rhätische Bahn
(RhB) lines switched from steam to
electric traction in the 1920s, the
railroad needed powerful new electric
locomotives. Between 1921 and 1929
fourteen of the famous "Crocodiles"
were purchased. The distinctive front
and rear hoods house two electric
motors. Power is transmitted from
driveshafts to the wheels through
siderods. With a sustained power rating
of 1076 hp and a top speed of 55 kph
the RhB-Crocodiles set a standard for
narrow gauge electric locomotives
that remained unsurpassed for many
years. Today several of these classic
locomotives are still in service and can
be enjoyed in front of special trains.
THE MODEL

This detailed replica is part of the LGB
