Status indicator (optional)
A LED can be connected via a series resistor of 1kOhm/0.25W to act as a
status indicator (item 2). Note the polarity of the plug connector (Fig. 6). The
status indicator is illuminated if the converter is in operation. The LED flashes
in the event of converter malfunction.
Charging process for 12 volt supply battery
During the charging process, the voltage of the supply battery is constantly
being monitored through the measuring cable B+. The charging process
follows the characteristic charging curve, with minimal energy loss (for the
characteristic charging curve, Fig. 2).
From 24 volts to 12 volts (forward mode)
When the engine is running, the generator charges the 24 volt starter battery.
Once the battery voltage reaches 27 volts, the 12 volt supply battery is charged
via the converter. If the voltage of the starter battery falls below 25 volts,
charging of the supply battery is interrupted.
If connection D+ (item 3) at the generator is used, the supply battery is always
charged when the engine is running. Always connect D+ if possible.
The 12 volt supply battery may also be charged via independent charging
devices (mains charger, solar equipment etc.).
Charging process for 24 volt starter battery
From 12 volts to 24 volts (reverse mode)
If the 24 volt starter battery is not charged via the generator and the voltage of
the 12 volt supply battery is greater than 14 volts, the starter battery is charged
from the supply battery via the converter. In order to prevent discharging of the
supply battery, reverse mode is interrupted if the voltage of the supply battery
falls below 13 volts.
If the 12 volt supply battery is charged via independent charging devices
(mains charger, solar equipment etc.), the 24 volt starter battery is charged at
the same time.
