2.3 eLoop operation

eLoop is a portable amplifier that integrates a
magnetic loop. This system allows direct
communication between an interlocutor and an
hard of hearing person with an hearing aid
equipped with the "T" or "T-coil". Embedded
into the hearing aid, the coil consists of a copper
coil. Thus, the magnetic field generated by
eLoop will pass through the small loops in the
hearing aid and, by the induction principle, the
electrical signal present in the large loop will
find its way into the small loops. The signal is
transmitted from the audio amplifier to the
hearing aid, which then returns it to the hard of
hearing people's ears.
To guarantee an optimal use of the eLoop it is
necessary to put it on the furniture between the
interlocutor and the user.
The presence of an earring loop is signaled by a
blue logo representing a crossed-out ear and a
letter T. Generally, an hearing aid has two major
positions, the M and the T. The M position
allows sound to be perceived through sound
pressure like a microphone, while the T position
(T for telephone) receives directly the audio
signals transmitted by induction via the
integrated coil. Some hearing aids combine
these two modes of operation via the MT
position. It allows the hard of hearing people to
perceive both ambient noise and inductive
signals.
