4 Setting into Operation
GB
4.1 Connecting signal sources
4.1.1 External microphone
When using external microphones as an alternative to the built-in micro-
phones, connect the external microphone to the 3.5 mm jack MIC IN (5).
The jack is stereophonic, but it is also possible to connect a mono mi-
crophone. A DC voltage for supplying electret microphones with power is
available at the jack. Select "EXT. MIC mono" or "EXT. MIC stereo" in the
setting menu accordingly. With "MIC 360" the signals of the connected
microphone are recorded together with those of the built-in microphones
(
chapter 7.3.1).
4.1.2 Sources with line signal level
Signal sources with line level (e. g. CD player, mixer output) may be con-
nected to the 3.5 mm jack LINE IN (4). For recording via internal or ex-
ternal microphones, this jack must remain unconnected.
4.2 Audio outputs
4.2.1 Output LINE OUT
It is possible to connect an amplifier system or another recorder for trans-
ferring the completed recordings to the 3.5 mm stereo jack LINE OUT (8).
4.2.2 Headphone output
Stereo headphones may be connected to the jack PHONES (9). In this
case the built-in speaker (28) is automatically switched off, regardless of
the setting in the menu (
chapter 7.5).
4.3 External data memory
Alternatively to the internal storage of the recorder, a recording can also
be stored on external data carriers, like SD cards, SDHC cards or USB
flash drives with a capacity of up to 32 GB. The data carriers must be for-
matted with the file system FAT32, FAT16 or FAT12. The required ca-
pacity depends on the desired recording time and the recording quality
(recording format and sampling rate or data rate
chapter 7.3.3 to
7.3.5). The memory location of the audio recording can be selected via
the operating menu in each case (
chapter 7.3.2).
Important: To prevent data loss, only insert or remove a data carrier with
the recorder switched off.
4.3.1 SD/SDHC memory card
It is possible to use SD memory cards (Secure Digital Memory Card) with
a capacity of 64 MB up to 2 GB or SDHC cards of 4 GB to 32 GB.
To insert the memory card, open the rubber cover (20) and insert the
card (with the bevelled corner right ahead) into the slot (24) until it locks
into place. To be able to record on the card, the write protect tab must not
be in position LOCK. To remove the card, slightly press it so that it dis-
engages and can then be removed.
