Removes silicate and phosphate fast and reliably from
+ 100% binding capacity compared to previous JBL SilicatEx
• Filter granulate to remove silicate fast and reliably.
• Withdraws the nutritional basis of undesirable diatom algae (brown
coating).
• Monitored with JBL Pro Aqua Test SiO
• Use: put into enclosed net bag, briefly rinse in water and place in filter
basket
• For use in all filters of the JBL CristalProfi range as well as all other
filters with containers for filter material.
Instructions for use:
What is JBL SilicatEx rapid?
JBL SilicatEx rapid is a synthetic iron oxide hydroxide which can
bind high amounts of silicate and phosphate extremely quickly. It is
ideally suited for lowering unwanted silicate contents in freshwater and
saltwater.
Where does the silicate in aquarium and mains water come from?
Silicon is one of the most common elements in the world. As a result
of the weathering of silicate rocks, silicon is washed into surface and
ground water in the form of silicate. Mains water can therefore contain
varying amounts of dissolved silicate. Mains water can contain up to 40
mg/l and, on rare occasions, even more. Silicate is non-toxic and there
is no threshold set in the regulations governing the quality of drinking
water.
What effect does silicate have in the aquarium?
In aquariums silicon provides a nutrient for algae (diatoms), some
aquatic plants (e.g. hornwort), as well as siliceous sponges and some
other invertebrates. When a new aquarium is set up or after a partial
water change, brown coatings of algae (diatoms) often occur. Because
of their skeleton of silicon, these algae are slightly rough to the touch,
clearly distinguishing it from slimy algae. Filtering with JBL SilicatEx
rapid prevents the occurrence of these algae. Any coating of diatoms
quickly disappears after filtering with JBL SilicatEx rapid.
We recommend the following values:
Freshwater: approx. 1 mg/l to 2 mg/l of SiO
Saltwater: max. 1 mg/l
Important:
JBL SilicatEx rapid can have a lowering effect on the carbonate
hardness. A monitoring of the carbonate hardness, especially at the
beginning of use, is therefore advisable. If the carbonate hardness
