5.3 Fine adjustment

5.3.1 Adjusting the measuring sensitivity
The control SENSITIVITY (5) allows adjustment of the
measuring sensitivity. The higher the measuring sensi-
tivity, the greater the detection depth.
5.3.2 Adjusting the unit to the composition of the
ground
It takes a certain time to adjust the unit to the compo-
sition of the ground, however, it is essential for correct
measurement.
In case of mineralized ground (containing iron ore or
iron oxide), the adjustment with the control GROUND
(3) will compensate inaccurate measuring results.
1) Set the switch MODE (2) to position VLF and set
the control GROUND to mid-position.
2) Hold the search coil at a distance of approx. 2 to
5 cm above the ground.
3) If the pointer of the indicating instrument (1) de-
flects to the right (NON-FERROUS), turn the con-
trol GROUND (3) towards NORMAL. If it deflects to
the left (FERROUS), turn the control GROUND
towards BASALT.
4) Raise the coil to a height of approx. 30 cm and
press the reference button (10). The pointer will
return to the centre of the indication.
5) Repeat the steps 2 to 4 so many times until the
pointer remains approximately in the centre of the
indication when the coil is lowered to the ground.

5.3.3 Adjusting the distinction between metals
The degree of deflection of the pointer with non-ferrous
metals does not only depend on the size and depth of
the object detected, but also on the type of metal. Via
the control DISCRIMINATION (6), the unit allows a fine
adjustment for the distinction between metals. For this
purpose, first set the control DISCRIMINATION to mid-
position in the operating mode TR1 or TR2. The further
the control is turned clockwise, the more sensitively the
unit will respond to differences between metals. A high
discrimination adjustment will e. g. allow a better dis-
tinction between large aluminium objects and gold ob-
jects, while smaller objects might be overlooked as the
pointer will not deflect until the unit detects a certain
content of non-ferrous metal. In the operating mode
VLF, the control DISCRIMINATION is insignificant.

tween metals.
