RADIO SOLAR WRISTWATCH EFAUS 103
INTENDED USE
The radio wristwatch is used to receive the radio signals DCF, MSF, WWVB and JJY
(60kHz). The time is displayed in analogue format. In addition, the integrated LC
display shows the weekday (in German or English), date, seconds and charge state
of the rechargeable battery. A solar cell is invisibly integrated in the clock-face
and used to recharge the battery (type ML 2016). If there is no radio signal, the
watch can be set manually. For this purpose, 31 cities from different time zones are
available.

INFORMATION ON DCF AND MULTIBAND-
RADIO SIGNALS
Attempts to receive the DCF signal for daily automatic synchronisation are made at
2 a.m. and 3 a.m at night. One successful reception per day is suffi cient to keep the
deviation to less than 1 second.
The DCF signal is encoded and transmitted via a DCF transmitter in Mainfl ingen
(near Frankfurt). Its range is up to 1,500 km and, under ideal reception conditions,
even up to 2,000 km. Among other things, the DCF signal includes the precise time
(theoretical deviation of 1 second in a million years!) and the date.
This watch is able to receive four different radio signals: DCF, MSF, WWVB and JJY
(60kHz). By receiving one of these signals, the time and date are adjusted automati-
cally. The time does not have to be set manually within the corresponding transmis-
sion range. This means there is no need for manual setting of summer and winter
time.

The reception of the corresponding radio signal depends on the location as well as
interfering signals which may be emitted from e.g. computers, TV sets and micro-
waves. Inside reinforced concrete buildings the radio signal might be weaker too.
If your watch does not display the correct time after delivery, the DCF receiver has
to be triggered manually. For this purpose, see chapter "Setting the time manually".

GETTING STARTED
The battery might be discharged due to storage and transport. You can see
this if all hands are on 12:00 o'clock or if the second hand moves only every
two seconds and skips one second. In this case, recharge the battery before
you put the watch into operation. For this purpose, see chapter „Recharging
the battery".

SEARCHING FOR RADIO SIGNAL
-
Press and hold button 1 for approx. three seconds until the aerial symbol fl ashes
in the display.
-
Place the watch near a window, if possible, to have an ideal reception. Also, the
clock face must either point upwards or downwards. Do not place the watch on
its side.
-
While searching for the signal, the display indicates the signal strength. This
facilitates the search for a suitable place for the reception of the radio signal.
-
Now the watch searches for the radio signal. This process might take several
minutes.
-
When the search for the radio signal is completed, and after a fast run of the
minute hand, the watch indicates the normal time again.
-
To check if the search for the radio signal was successful, press button 1.
Successful reception: "OK" appears on the display, next to the aerial symbol.
No reception:
"NO" appears on the display, next to the aerial symbol.
If the watch does not receive any signal, take it to another location. If necessary,
put the watch near a window overnight because the reception is better at night than
during the day. If that doesn't work, the watch is not within the range of the radio
signal transmitter. In this case, set the watch manually. This procedure is described
in the chapter "Setting the time manually".
SETTING THE DISPLAY LANGUAGE
The weekdays can be displayed either in German or English. For this purpose, pro-
ceed as follows:
-
While in normal time mode, press and hold button 2 for approx. three seconds
until a 3-digit city code appears on the display.
-
Press button 2 again. The weekday, e.g. TUE (=Tuesday), fl ashes on the display.
-
Press button 1 to switch between the languages.
