6. Some Useful Information

6.1

Temperature Measurements Taken within the Ear

This unit measures the temperature in the ear by sensing infrared emission of the eardrum and surrounding
tissues, and then calculates the oral-equivalent value using a unique algorithm based on actual body temperature
survey data.
The Gentle Temp 522 PRO is less threatening to a child than a rectal thermometer. It is faster, safer, and easier to
use than an oral thermometer.
Clinical research has shown that the ear is an ideal site for taking body temperature.

Knowing a Patient's Normal Temperature

In order to make a correct judgment of suspected fever conditions, it is important to know the patient's normal
temperature. Normal temperature varies with the individual and measurement time through a day. In addition, it
may vary depending on the thermometer or the body part where you measure. To find out the patient's normal
temperature, we recommend performing regular measurements under the following conditions:
- Measure with the same thermometer.
- Measure at the same area.
- Measure at the same time of day.
