LAYING OF THE REFLECTA PLATES
General
Reflecta plates can be laid on all types of sub-floors that comply with
the current building regulations for load-bearing structures. The subfloor
should be clean, stable and rigid, without cracks or adhesion-reducing
substances. Cracks are to be filled out on beforehand with a casting
resin. Big roughness is to be levelled out. The concrete subfloor must be
completely dry before installing the floor heating system. With quickly
solidifying plaster, one should follow the supplier's instructions. The
height difference on the sub-floor must not exceed 1-2 mm per metre. If
the Reflecta plates are to be glued to an existing surface material (e.g.
vinyl mat, ceramic tiles etc), it must be approved by the floor-layer first.
Use an expansion joint (minimum thickness 5mm) between the walls
and the Reflecta plates. Joints should be planned between separately
operated heating circuits and/or adjoining unheated areas. The joint
arrangement can be planned in consultation with the architect and the
floor covering contractor.
In room areas where heating is not required and therefore no Reflecta
plates are laid, 13 mm floor plasterboard may be used as alternative
filling material to enable same floor height but has to be fixed in the
same way as Reflecta plates.
If a floating floor is to be laid, then the Reflecta plates can be laid floating
as well. See the respective type construction for different surface
materialsFig C or D.
When laying natural stone flooring the Reflecta plate should first be
primed all over with Reflecta P-Fix. After allowing a drying time of
around 3 hours at 20°C, the natural stone flooring can be laid, using
suitable adhesives for natural stone. Ceramic tiles can be laid on top of
the Reflecta slab primed with Reflecta-P-Fix, using a standard flexible
tile or natural stone adhesive designed for underfloor heating use. The
maximum advisable tile size on top of the Reflecta plates is 250mm
x 250mm. If bigger tiles are to be used, always consult with the glue
manufacturer for compatibility of the glue with Reflecta plates.
Reflecta A-Fix adhesive must always be used when gluing Reflecta plates
to the sub-floor. Suitable sub-floors are stable wood foundation, concrete,
cement, plates, filler and ceramic tiles. Reflecta A-Fix adhesive can not be
