CHARGING A BATTERY OUTSIDE OF
A VEHICLE
WARNING! A spark near the battery may cause the battery to
explode. To reduce the risk of a spark near the battery:
1. Check the polarity of the battery
posts. The positive (+) battery post
usually has a larger diameter than the
negative (-) post.
2. Attach a cable (sold separately) to the
negative (-) battery post. This cable
must be a minimum of 24 in.
(61 cm) long, and of a wire gauge
that is no lighter than the wire gauge
of the charger's output cables (battery cables and booster
cables work well). See figure 3.
3. Connect the positive (red) charger clip to the positive (+)
post of the battery.
4. Position yourself and the free end of the cable (installed in
Step #2) as far away from the battery as possible. Facing
away from the battery, connect the negative (black) charger
clip to the free end of the cable.
5. When disconnecting the charger, always do so in reverse
sequence of the connecting procedure and break first the
connection while as far away from the battery as possible.
LED AND ERROR CODE INDICATOR
1. Check Light is On: Plug the charger's AC supply cord into the
outlet before beginning to charge for the charger to perform
self-diagnosis.
2. Charging Light is On: The battery is charging.
3. Charged Light is On: The battery is fully charged.
