PIPETMAN 8X200
4) Wait one second to ensure that the full volume
of sample is drawn into each tip.
5) Withdraw the tips from the vials. If some
liquid remains on the outside of the tips, wipe
them carefully with a medical wipe, taking
care not to touch the tip orifices.
DISPENSING
1) Dispense the sample by touching the tip
ends against the side walls of the receiving
wells and pressing the pushbutton slowly to
the first stop
(Fig.
2) Wait one second (longer for viscous solutions).
Then press the push-button to the second
stop (bottom of the stroke,
any residual liquid; this is the purge stroke.
3) Keeping the push-button fully depressed,
withdraw the 8X200 carefully, wiping the
tips along the walls of the wells.
4) Allow the push-button to return to the upper-
most position
(Fig.
5) Discard the tips by twisting the winged tip
ejector knob. New tips should be used for
each sample to prevent sample carry-over.
PRE-RINSING
When you fit a new tip (or change the volume to
be aspirated), you should pre-rinse the tip. To pre-
rinse a tip you aspirate the desired volume and
then dispense it back into the same vessel.
The action of pre-rinsing a new tip improves the
accuracy and repeatability for the volume of
liquid subsequently transferred. This is because
when you aspirate a liquid using a pipette a film
forms on the inside of the tip. The nature of the film,
which is a potential source of error, depends on the
liquid being transferred. However, this film remains
relatively constant after successive operations
with the same tip. Therefore, you pre-rinse the tip
to maximize the performance of your pipette.
