2. DESCRIPTION
This dimmer automatically selects phase control or reverse phase control. Max.
load 450W/450VA. Suitable for incandescent lamps, dimmable, ferromagnetic
transformers (depending on the load) and electronic transformers. These
loads can be mixed. Provided with a digital PLC-filter. Remote control via
N.O.-contacts. Max. 30, non-lit push buttons in parallel.
3. INSTALLATION AND CONNECTIONS
For the connection of the load and the necessary power supply, see enclosed
connection diagrams.
To meet possible tolerances caused by irregularities in the plaster or by
the use of multiple cover plates, the in-between plate is provided with a
setscrew (fig.1).
If the button still has play, turn the setscrew to the left (fig.1). If the dimmer
is automatically activated (without operating it), then turn the setscrew to
the right (fig.1).
4. OPERATION AND USE
4.1. Normal operation
Lamps connected via dimmers cannot be controlled to the max. light intensity.
The light intensity will always be less compared with an identical lamp that is
directly connected to the mains. When fully loaded, the dimmer will dissipate
max. 4W. Remote control via N.O. contacts (non-lit). Press briefly for on/off.
Press longer to increase/decrease. When pressing long, the dim direction
is reversed after each interruption (increase -> stop -> decrease -> stop ->
increase -> etc). Once the max. light intensity is reached, the level will remain
the same even if you keep pressing the push button. The last level before
switching off can be stored in a memory (see 4.4). Up to 30 N.O. contacts
(07-000) can be connected in parallel (max. distance 100m). The push buttons
are not galvanically seperated.
4.2 Automatic switchover
The dimmer can operate in reverse phase control or phase control. The
selection of the operating mode is made automatically. When the dimmer is
switched on for the first time, it operates in reverse phase control.
If the load is not suitable for dimming in reverse phase control, the dimmer
will automatically switch to phase control. Press a control for the load to also
operate in phase control. During switchover, the lighting is switched off.
If phase control is selected, but the load is not suitable for this mode, the
dimmer will switch to reverse phase control after a power cut. Press a control
for the load to also operate in reverse phase control. During switchover, the
lighting is switched off.
4.3 Reinitializing
Every time a new load is connected (e.g. use of low voltage halogen instead
of incandescent lamps), it is recommended to reinitialize the dimmer.
The dimmer reinitializes itself when a push button is controlled during the
activation of the power supply voltage. The dimmer then returns to the
standard operating mode, i.e. reverse phase control. During this period of
time (±30s.), the dimmer cannot be controlled.

4.4 Memory function
The dimmer can be used both with or without memory function. The dimmer
operates with memory function as a standard. Press the control button at
max. light intensity for 10s. to modify this mode. After 10s., the light level
will drop from 100% to 50% to indicate the standard function is switched
off. Immediately let go of the control button after the change in light intensity.
Repeat this setting to reactivate the memory function. This function and the
last set light intensity are stored in a permanent memory. They are not lost
in case of a power cut. When the dimmer is activated for the first time (with
memory function), it is activated on the minimum light intensity. Afterwards,
the dimmer always switches to the last set value when activated.
With memory
- Press briefly = on at memorised level / off
- Press long when switched off = dimmer dims up from 0%
- Dimming up: dimmer stops at max. light intensity
- Dimming down: dimmer stops for 2s. at min. light intensity and then dims
up
- A new (long) press reverses the dim direction.
Without memory
- Press briefly = on at max. light intensity / off. For the rest, the operation
is analogous to the operation with memory.
- Push button control:
press briefly <400ms.
press long >400ms.
= on/off
= dimm up/down
5. TROUBLESHOOTING
Possible causes if the dimmer does not operate:
- the dimmer is switched off, the load is not dimmable in reverse phase
control nor in phase control
- the mains is not connected
- the load is not connected or is too high
- the lamp or the used cable is defective
- the thermal protection is activated
- combination of the above-mentioned causes
The dimmer is provided with thermal protection. If the temperature is too high
due to overload, the light is automatically dimmed to ±40%. If the temperature
continues to increase, the dimmer switches off. In this case:
- check whether the load is not too high, taking into account the power
factor of the ferromagnetic transformers.
- check the ambient temperature and placement of the dimmer, using the
load table (fig.2).
6. USAGE NOTICE
- When mounting the dimmer in the immediate vicinity of an audio installation,
it is recommended to provide the connection wires between the different
parts of the installation with shielded wire.
- Signals sent via the mains can disturb the operation of the dimmer. A
digital PLC-filter is built in to suppress this effect.
- In normal use, this dimmer will produce a limited amount of heat. Provide
a heat outlet. Do not cover the dimmer with insulating material. Take into
account that the max. amount of power is limited when several dimmers
are placed on top of or next to each other.
- When several dimmers are flush mounted on top of each other, the
temperature in the distribution board can be too high. This can effect the
operation of the dimmer (limitation of the max. amount of power – thermal
protection). Do not place the dimmers on top of each other when they are
all loaded to the maximum.
- When using halogen lighting with ferromagnetic transformers, take into
account the efficiency of the transformers. Load these transformers for at
least 80% of their nominal power. The transformer has to be suitable for
dimming.
- Electronic transformers can behave unstably if the wire between the
transformers and the lamps is longer than 2m.
- Behaviour of the appliance after power cut <3s.: back to previous situation
with memory/without memory. Conduct of the appliance after power cut
> 3s.: the dimmer stays switched off.
- The dimmer is never electrically seperated from the mains by operating
the control. All components therefore remain live even if the load (e.g.
the light) is switched "off".
- This device is not suitable for controlling motors unless the specific safety
requirements are guaranteed by external systems.
