Wear monitoring – general
Any tool is subject to wear, even if used as intend-
ed. This wear is acceptable within certain limits, and is
compensated for each time the tool is calibrated.
To access the current condition of the tool as a numer-
ical readout on the display, press the MODE button for
10 seconds (8 to 15 seconds). The display will show
the following in sequence:
• Serial number
• Current wear value (current lower limit of indent)
• Position value of the lower limit of indent without
wear (reference value)
• Number of times the tool has been calibrated
The reference value for calculating the amount of wear
is the mechanical limit of the lowest setting. This val-
ue is permanently set in the tool memory and cannot
be changed. At every battery change, the tool display
must be reset to this reference value. To do this, pro-
ceed as described below.
Resetting to the reference value
(The battery must first be removed)
• Open the tool.
• Turn the adjusting knob (shown) all the way to the
lowest setting (clockwise) and leave it there.
• Insert the battery; the display will show CAL, indi-
cating that it needs to be calibrated.
• Calibrate the tool to 2 mm with the pin gauge as
described above, by setting the crimp indent interval
to exactly 2 mm.
• Press and hold the ON/OFF button and use the tip
of the pin gauge to press the MODE button.
• Hold down the MODE button for at least 5 seconds.
• After 5 seconds, release the MODE button and then
the ON/OFF button.
• The digital display will automatically jump to the pin
gauge value of 2.0 mm.
• The tool is now calibrated and ready for setting
crimping parameters.
Troubleshooting
This four indent crimp tool reaches its wear limit af-
ter about 50,000 crimp cycles. If this amount is ex-
ceeded, the display will show error message E1. At
first the display will switch back and forth between the
set crimp value and this error message; then it will on-
ly show E1.
Maintenance
Before beginning work, you must always check that
this tool is functioning smoothly. Crimp residue or frag-
ments must be removed from the crimping jaws and
locator. The tools joints should be regularly lubricated
with a light machine oil. Make sure that all bolts are se-
cured with locking rings.
Repairs
Only the manufacture shall conduct repairs on the
crimping tool. Improper repairs can lead to operator
accidents and tool damage.
