INSTALLATION
Housing Platform
Adjustable bar hangers are captive and pre-installed for
use in installations with spacing from 10" to 24" , while
maintaining a minimum of 1/2" spacing around platform.
They can be used with joist installations of wood,
engineered lumber, steel stud construction and with grid
ceilings having T-bars. Hanger bars are of an interlocking
design and allow positioning of housing platform along
entire length of bars. Modular plaster frame collar allows
fixture to be installed in 1/2" to 2" thick ceilings.
Optional extended collars must be used for ceilings

greater than 1" thick. Elements E4LWW and E4AA
are not recommended for ceilings greater than 1"
thick. Please refer to lamp module and optical
element instruction sheets.

Non-IC Platform: The P406TAT housing is designed for
•
installation where it will not come in contact with
insulation. Thermal insulation must be kept a minimum of
three inches (3") away from the housing sides, top and
junction box (Figure 1.).
If fixture is to be switched from wall switch, make sure
•
black power supply wire is connected to the switch. DO
NOT connect the white supply wire to the switch.
When installing wall wash element using the 26 watt
•
double twin tube or 42 watt triple twin tube compact
fluorescent lamp housings must be installed parallel to
the wall (Figure 2.).
Housing platforms must be installed with edge of plaster
•
frame collar flush to within 1/8" of bottom of the finished
ceiling for proper operation (Figure 3.).
The P406TAT Housing is equipped with universal hanger
•
brackets (Figure 4.). When used this fixture should be
supported by main runners or other structure that is
capable of supporting a fixture weight of 10 pounds.
Brackets are adjustable by loosening the two adjustment
screws, moving brackets up or down and retightening
screws. To facilitate tighter joist spacing remove universal
hanger brackets by accessing mounting screws through
access holes. Reinstall mounting screws into housing to
maintain Airtite construction.

Maximum ceiling thickness is 2" with the appropriate
•
plaster frame collar installed. For 10" spacing, the bar
hanger can be shortened by breaking them at score lines
(Figure 5.).
Joist Installation
1. Extend bar hangers to fit between joist and position
mounting tab locater lip tight to bottom of joist or
framing member. Bar hangers should be level with
bottom of joist or framing member. (Figure 6.)
2. Attach bar hangers to joist or framing member using
appropriate hardware for material type.

3. Adjust housing platform position by sliding back and
forth on bar hangers to desired position. Housing may
be locked into position by tightening bar hanger locking
screws on housing platform.
Grid Ceiling Installation
1. Extend bar hangers between the T-bars and slide the
slots in the mounting tabs over the T-bars. (Figure 7 .)
2. Adjust housing platform position by sliding back and
forth on bar hangers to desired position. Housing may
