2. First the air has to be removed from the system. Gently turn the
handle of the cement mixer clockwise. You will see the piston of
the mixer advancing in the translucent cartridge and after a while
cement will flow into the stopcock. As soon as the cement is visible
in the stopcock close the stopcock by turning the handle ("off")
toward the mixer (90°).
3. Attach a syringe to the stopcock (funnel side).
4. Open the stopcock by turning the handle (90° turn), back to its
original position.
5. Carefully fill the syringe by slowly turning the handle of the cement
mixer clockwise.
6. When the syringe is filled turn the handle of the stopcock again
(90°) towards the mixer. The "off" sign is directed toward the
mixer stopping the cement flow.
7. Disconnect the filled syringe and attach the next empty syringe.
Repeat steps 3 to 7 for all syringes. Continue to fill the syringes in
the same manner. Always fill all syringes at once.
8. To access adapters remove the cover lid. Screw the adapters on the
filled syringes.
9. Follow the instructions for use of the bone cement to determine
when to inject the bone cement best.
10. Attach the syringe with the adapter to the recess of the canulated
screw which needs to be augmented – ensure a good interlock
between recess and adapter.
11. Carefully inject the bone cement under the use of adequate imag-
ing technique.
Troubleshooting
If the force needed to inject cement becomes too high, this indicates
that the maximum working time for the combination of DePuy Synthes
PMMA-based bone cement and access solution used has been reached.
