How to operate your Friedrich room air conditioner
(All models except YQ07 and EQ08. For YQ07 and EQ08, see page 6)

To start unit

If your air con di tion er is installed and plugged into a prop er
re cep ta cle, it is ready to go.

Function control

This dial control allows you to select cooling or heat ing at
three different speeds, as well as FAN ONLY.
Turn to OFF to turn everything off.
Turn to HI COOL or HI HEAT for quick re sponse.
Turn to MED COOL or MED HEAT to main tain a de sired
temperature.
Turn to LO COOL or LO HEAT for nighttime use, or
when demand is
low.

The FAN ONLY setting will circulate air in the room
with out the com pres sor coming on. The FAN ONLY
set ting can also be used with the EXHAUST air set ting to
re move stale air or smoke from the room, or it can be used
with the FRESH AIR setting to bring outside air into the
room, es pe cial ly in the spring and fall when cool ing isn't
nec es sary.
The FRESH AIR and EXHAUST con trols are in the
up per air discharge area (see Figure 6, page 5). The cen ter
position of this control is the normal, or closed po si tion,
which re cir cu lates air for max i mum per for mance in the
cool ing mode.
NOTE: You may notice an odor when fi rst ac ti vat ing the
heat when the electric heat el e ment comes on. This is due
to dust burning off that may have gath ered on the coil
during the sum mer.

Temperature control

This dial is the thermostat. Turn it clock wise for cool er and
counterclockwise for warm er.
Money Saver
This rocker switch can be depressed to either YES or NO.
In the YES position you will get the most eco nom i cal
operation. Both the fan and com pres sor will cy cle on and
off to geth er, main tain ing the se lect ed tem per a ture at a more
con stant lev el and re duc ing the hu mid i ty more ef fi cient ly in
the cooling mode. This control will only op er ate when the
unit is in cooling or heating mode. In the NO position, the
fan will run con stant ly as long as the unit is in the cooling
or heat ing mode.
Please Note: The YS09 is a 115 volt model and does not
provide adequate heat below 37°F (3°C). This prod uct is
designed for warm climate ap pli ca tions.
