AIR COMPRESSOR PUMP (SINGLE STAGE)
To compress air, the pistons move up and down inside the cylinders. In the downward travel, air is drawn in through
the air intake valves while the exhaust valves remain closed. In the upward travel, the air is compressed, the inlet valves
are closed and the compressed air is forced out through the exhaust valves to the discharge line, through the pilot
valve and into the air tank.
AIR COMPRESSOR PUMP (TWO STAGES)
The pump in a two-stage compressor uses two different sized cylinders with the intake valve of the second smallest
cylinder connected to the exhaust valve of the first larger cylinder. In the downward travel of the large cylinder, air is
drawn in through the inlet valve while the exhaust valve remains closed. In the upward travel, the air is compressed,
the intake valve is closed and the compressed air is forced out through the exhaust valve, through the interferon and
through the intake valve of the second smallest cylinder in its downward travel. In the upward travel of the smallest
cylinder, the inlet valve is closed and the compressed air is compressed a second time and forced out of the exhaust
valve to the discharge line, through the tank check valve and into the air tank.
BOILER PRESSURE INDICATOR
The pressure gauge on the air tank indicates the reserve air pressure inside the air tank (or tanks).
PRESSURE REGULATOR
The air pressure coming from the boiler is controlled by the regulator. Turn the pressure regulating knob clockwise to
increase the discharge pressure and counterclockwise to decrease the discharge pressure.
OUTPUT PRESSURE INDICATOR
The outlet pressure indicator indicates the available outlet pressure at the outlet side of the regulator. This pressure is
controlled by the regulator and is always less than or equal to the air tank pressure.
