24. TROUBLESHOOTING

Below are a list of some of the most common problems that may arise, with the relati-
ve solutions.
INDICATION
Machine switches off
[display: off]
Network error
MALFUNCTIONS DURING WELDING
Failure to strike an arc
[display:antisticking]
Porous welding seam
No fusion
Marginal incisions
28
CAUSE/S
Lack of tension on the supply grid.
1) Failure of one mains power supply phase
2) Mains overvoltage or undervoltage
1) neither of the cables is
(pincer and earth clamps)
2) the cables are interrupted
3) bad contact between the earth
clamp and piece
4) bad contact between the pincer
and electrode
5) erroneous welding parameter settings
6) the welder does not produce current
MMA: electrode in contact with the mass
Erroneous distance and/or inclination of
the torch
Presence of hydrogen due to humidity in
the coatings of the electrodes, erroneous
conservation of electrodes
Welding arc is too long
1) incorrect electrical parameters
2) welding speed to high
3) erroneous preparation of the patches
4) erroneous welding position
1) electrical parameters too high
2) erroneous welding position
3) excessive welding speed
SOLUTION/ADVICE
Refresh the power supply
tension.
1) Check the connection to the
power supply and check that the
fuses are intact
2) Check that the mains has a value
in the range from 360Vrms to
440Vrms.
1) check the connections
2) check the cables
3) check the connections
4) check the connections
5) check the parameters
6) check the welder
Remove the electrode from the
workpiece
the distance between the electro-
de and the piece must be approxi-
mately equal to the diameter of the
electrode core; for basic electro-
des the rule is L=diam. X 0.5, the
inclination must not be excessive
replace the electrodes,
keep the electrodes following the
manufacturer's/supplier's instructions
keep the correct distance between
the electrode and the piece
1) use the correct parameters,
reduce the speed
2) keep the correct welding
position
3) preparare the joint correctly
(open the angle of the caulker)
4) correct the welding position
1) reduce the electrical parameters
2) correct the welding position
3) reduce the welding speed
