- ib: Intrinsic safety level of protection "ib".
This means that the apparatus satisfies the requirements of the harmonised European standard EN
50020 clause 5.3:
In normal operation and with the application of one countable fault plus non-countable faults, the apparatus shall
not be capable of causing ignition.
- II: for places with a potentially explosive atmosphere other than mines
- C: gas group C (highest classification, so also valid for the A and B groups mentioned in the appendix of
the EN 50014)
- T3..T6: The classification of the max. surface temperature (85°C-200°C) for the group II electrical
apparatus the actual Tclassification depends on the batteriesused; see the table opposite for more
information:
- KEMA is the Approved Certification Body that issued in year 2002 a certificate of conformity with number
ATEX1300.

Putting into service
The pager may only be put into service at the site by the "system manager", the person responsible for the safety
of people using equipment in areas which have a potential explosive atmosphere. This system manager must be
acquainted with the risks for the user at the places where the pager will be used. Before the transceiver is put into
service the user should receive instructions and information about the conditions to be followed for the safe
operation.
The following items should be a guide for the instructions:
- Defining the area where the pager may be used.
- The special conditions of use, including examples of possible misuse, for which experience has shown
that they might occur.
- Inside the defined area the pager may not be opened.
- Inside the defined area the batteries of the pager may not be charged by a charging unit.
- Outside the defined area the batteries of the pager may only be charged by dedicated chargers

- Only the battery types mentioned on the ATEX-certificate may be used.
- A defect transceiver should immediately be brought outside the area.
- If the user is in doubt about the use of the transceiver in a specific area, he/she should contact the
system manager.
