INSTALLATION
WARNING:
1.
TO AVOID FIRE, SHOCK OR DEATH; TURN OFF POWER AT CIRCUIT BREAKER OR FUSE AND TEST THAT POWER IS OFF BEFORE WIRING!
2.
The Photocell can either be fastened onto the ceiling surface, flush mounted into the ceiling, or installed in a 4" (10 cm) round or octagonal outlet box, depending on ceiling
material and local codes.
3A. TO FASTEN THE PHOTOCELL ONTO THE CEILING SURFACE: Attach the outer shell provided to the ceiling at the desired location using two (2) #4 screws and
appropriate anchor hardware, where necessary. For concealed wiring, access to the space above the ceiling is required, as well as a hole in the ceiling above the Photocell
to bring the wires from the Leviton Power Pack. Make all connections as described in Steps 4 through 9. Carefully feed the wires into the hole and press the Photocell body
into the outer shell until the rim is flush with the shell. NOTE: If wiring is to be run exposed along the ceiling, carefully trim the plastic from the indentation in the side of the
outer shell and lay the Photocell wires through it before tightening the shell onto the ceiling.
3B. TO FLUSH MOUNT INTO THE CEILING (ONLY ALLOWS CONCEALED WIRING, THE OUTER SHELL IS NOT USED): Cut a 2" (5 cm) diameter hole through the ceiling.
Make all connections as described in Steps 4 through 9. Carefully feed the wires back through the hole and press the Photocell into the hole until the rim is flush with the ceiling.
4.
Prepare the Photocell lead wires by removing 3/4" (1.9 cm) of insulation from each lead to expose bare copper wire. Make sure the ends of wires are straight.
5.
Determine length of low-voltage wires needed to connect Power Pack to Photocell. Use wires suitable for low-voltage wiring, according to local electrical code.
6.
Route low-voltage wires from Photocell location(s) to Power Pack location(s).
NOTE: Refer to Power Pack Installation Instructions for complete control unit wiring details.
7.
Connect low-voltage wires per Figure 2 as follows: BLACK to Ground, RED To Power and ORANGE to the Power Pack Photocell Input. Twist strands of each separate
wire connection tightly, and push firmly into appropriate wire connector. Screw connectors on clockwise ensuring that no bare conductor shows below the wire connectors.
Secure each connector with electrical tape.
8.
Mount Photocell to ceiling. INSTALLATION IS COMPLETE.
TROUBLESHOOTING: Refer to the Installation Manual and User Guide of specific Lighting Control System utilized.
PHOTOCELL AND DAYLIGHTING OPERATIONS
Daylight harvesting is used for additional energy savings. The photocell holds the lights OFF when sufficient
ambient light is present; or ON when sufficient light is not present. Light levels are measured in foot-candles or lux. A
classroom or office space design is usually configured to maintain approximately 35-50 foot candles/350-500 lux at
the work surface. The light maintain level a.k.a. the "Daylight Design Level" (DDL) is set per the calibration section of
this install sheet.
CALIBRATION
After the Controller is installed, it must be configured correctly to maintain the desired light level (DDL) and to gain
energy savings. To achieve this, the installer first needs to understand Closed Loop* daylight harvesting, and then
decide where to install the Controller before configuring and calibrating the device.
*Closed Loop: When the Controller is focused on an area which is primarily illuminated by the lights it is controlling.
For best calibration results, personnel should maintain at least a 6 foot distance from the device during Auto and
Manual Calibration.
Off Mode: The Controller is disabled in OFF Mode and lights forced ON. This is the factory default setting. The device
must be in OFF Mode before calibration can be started. To enter OFF Mode, turn the Photocell dial to SET/OFF for
longer than 5 seconds. Entering OFF Mode will cancel calibration.
NOTE: If the light level falls below 10 lux during calibration, that calibration will fail and the LED will be solid BLUE.
The device enters OFF Mode when this occurs. To exit from this mode turn the Photocell dial fully counterclockwise to
SET/OFF for longer than 5 seconds. After the solid BLUE LED turns OFF restart the calibration.
NOTE: Lights MUST be forced ON during Manual and Auto Calibration.
Manual Mode: Used to quickly configure the Daylight Design Level (DDL). Calibration should always be done when
ambient light is at user's desired level.
Manual Calibration Procedure:
1. Turn the Photocell dial fully counterclockwise to SET/OFF for 2 seconds (a solid RED LED will indicate that manual
calibration has started), then immediately turn the dial to the desired multiplier value (preferably 1x).
2. Lights are forced ON for 3 min minutes (with solid RED LED).
3. When 3 minutes have elapsed, the LED blinks RED for an additional 3 minutes. The DDL can be adjusted by
turning the Photocell dial. NOTE: The LED blinks BLUE when the dial setting has changed.
4. When Manual Calibration is complete, the LED will resume normal operation. The device is now operating in
Manual Mode.
Auto Mode: Used to configure the DDL in 24 hours. Calibration can be done at any time.
Auto Calibration Procedure:
1. Turn the photocell knob (fully clockwise) to AUTO (LED will be solid GREEN for 24 hours indicating the device has
entered Auto Calibration mode.
2. Auto Calibration will complete in 24 hours and the LED will resume normal operation. The device is now operating
in Auto Mode.

8.
Fixer la photocellule au plafond. L'INSTALLATION EST TERMINÉE.

WARNINGS AND CAUTIONS:
Use this device with copper or copper clad wire only.
For indoor use only.
PHOTOCELL OPERATION
In order to keep the lights from needlessly cycling ON and OFF, the OFF trigger point is set at a higher light level
than the ON triggers point. In addition, there is a delay time that must be met which requires the light level to be
above or below the trigger point for a period of time before a light change occurs. For example, there may be a
10% hysteresis gap between the OFF and ON trigger points, along with a 3,5,10,20,30 minute delay time to turn
OFF the lights and a 1 minute time delay to turn ON the lights.
OFF and ON trigger point levels can be adjusted at any time using the Photocells Set Point knob.
NOTE:
Quick adjustments can be made to the DDL by adjusting the Photocell Set Point after calibration has been
completed. The Delay Time for lights ON/OFF will be reduced to 30 sec ON/OFF after the Photocell Set Point
knob change is recognized. The reduced delay time will expire 2 minutes after knob change occurs.
The LED blinks BLUE when either knob setting has changed.
To disable photocell or cancel calibrations turn the knob to SET/OFF (RED LED, solid YELLOW LED).
The graph in Figure 4 tracks the value of a linear photocell throughout a day. It is assumed that it is a cloudless day
and that the desired light level is the same level without external light influence and only by the fixture(s). At the far
left, the lights are ON because the area is occupied and since it is still night, there is no contribution from daylighting.
As dawn arrives, the photocell level begins to increase as the daylight increases. In order to keep the light level from
dropping below the trigger point, and in this case
below the desired light level in the area (DDL),
the trigger point is set to 2.5 times the level read
with only the fixture(s). That way, the light is still
adequate to hold the lights OFF. This is shown in
the graph at the point where the level suddenly
drops. The photocell level then continues to
increase until around noon. As the daylight
decreases, the area light eventually drops to
near the desired light level. Before reaching this
point, the lights are turned back ON, indicated by
the sudden increase in the photocell level.
