HEIGHT GAUGE AND SCRIBING INSTRUMENT
Operating instructions
Introduction
Double-column height gauge and scribing instrument with dual directional indicator and dial gauge. The mechanical counter can be set to zero (0) so that the measurement
can easily be started at any height. A large feed wheel enables straightforward vertical adjustment of the measuring slide.
Note: The base surface (e.g. surface plate or granite surface plate) has to be clean and level for accurate measurement. Ensure that the scribing blade is correctly secured in
the holder.
Technical data
Measurement range:
300 mm
Resolution:
0.01 mm
Measurement accuracy: 0.04 mm
Weight:
4.3 kg
Preparatory work involving the height gauge and scribing instrument
Clean the underside of the base and the scribing blade
Place the instrument on a level and clean base surface
Fit the scribing blade at the holder and tighten the clamp
Adjustment of measuring slide
Loosen measuring slide clamp and slowly rotate feed wheel
For rapid adjustment of the measuring slide, turn the feed wheel via
the rotatable handle
For fine adjustment of the measuring slide, turn the feed wheel
at the outer edge
Setting the counter to zero
Loosen the measuring slide clamp and lower the measuring slide by slowly
rotating the feed wheel until the scribing blade makes contact with the reference
surface. In order to set the dial gauge to zero, rotate the scale ring until the pointer
is set to zero (0). Push the zero button to reset the counter.
Reading of gauge
Upward measurement:
For measuring an upward distance from the reference surface, take the measure-
ments from the upper counter and then read the value on the dial gauge.
Downward measurement:
For measuring a downward distance from the reference surface, take the
measurements from the lower counter and then read the value on the dial gauge
(Attention: anticlockwise reading).
Storage
After instrument use, raise the scribing blade off of the base surface (surface
plate) and attach the instrument cover.
In the case of an extended storage period, remove the scribing blade and grease
the underside of the base and the holder for the scribing blade. Also apply a small
amount of corrosion protection oil to the double column.
Safety notice
Never take a hold of the instrument at the
cross-member or the double column
to transport the height gauge as this
could adversely affect the instrument
accuracy.
Repairs
Should the instrument need to be repaired, please contact our service centre → Servicecenter@brw.ch
