Operating Instruction
ABS/EBS Testing unit 40190
(HGV 24 V)
Intended purpose
This testing unit is used to simplify the
checking of an ISO7638 (ABS/EBS) socket
on the towing vehicle and the coiled cable
between the towing vehicle and trailer for
short circuits or cable breaks. The test result
is displayed via LEDs in the device housing.
The following tests can be performed:
Testing the towbar socket in accordance
with ISO 7638 on the towing vehicle
(See illustration, test 1)
The ABS/EBS testing unit is inserted in
the ISO 7638 socket of the HGV and the
ignition switched on.
If all 5 LEDs light up green, all circuits
are OK.
If one or more LEDs light up red, the
error can be diagnosed using the key
printed on the side of the device.
Testing of the coiled cable according to ISO
7838. (See illustration, test 2)
Connect the ABS/EBS testing unit via the
spiral cable to the socket on the towing
vehicle and switch on the ignition.
The LEDs show the test result according
to the symbols printed on the side of
the device.

Testing of communication cables
(See illustration, test 3)
1. Connect the ABS/EBS testing unit to the
socket on the towing vehicle.
2. Connect the trailer to the socket of the
testing unit using the coiled cable.
(The testing unit is basically connected
in series between the towing vehicle
and trailer)
3. The vehicle must be at a standstill, the
park brake activated and the ignition
switched on.
4. Read out the test result using the LEDs
on the housing of the testing unit.
Fault diagnosis
LED 1-5
= green = OK
LED 1+2+3 = red
= under 19 V
LED 3+4 = red = earth fault
CAN high (LED on = OK/LED off = faulty)
CAN low (LED on = OK/LED off = faulty)
ATTENTION
The testing unit may only be used
with the vehicle at a standstill. Never
use the testing unit when driving on
public roads.
