Initially filtration will be mechanical only, but in time the materials will become
biologically active through the growth of micro-organisms. You can kick-start this
process by adding a dose of bacteria like VT Bio Bac to the filter materials.
There are three types of Pressure Filter:
Pressure Filter 6000 + UV-C 9 W suitable up to 6000 l, recommended pump 3000 l/h
Pressure Filter 10000 + UV-C 18 W suitable up to 10.000 l, recommended pump 5000 l/h
Pressure Filter 15000 + UV-C 24 W suitable up to 15.000 l, recommended pump 8000 l/h
INSTALLATION
The Pressure Filters are supplied complete with all the necessary filter materials,
which should be rinsed before use. Place the bio-filter balls at the bottom of the
filter and on top of them place the grate with filter foam rings. Position the lid with the
UV-C cylinder and close the filter using the clamp. Assembled correctly, the filter is
watertight up to a working pressure of at least 0.5 bar.
Connecting a pump (not included)
There are 3 connections for hose swivels on top of the filter lid. Connect the pump
to the hose swivel marked with the input arrow (A). The discharge hose to the pond
is connected to the other socket marked with the output arrow (B). The outlet with
the cap (C) is the dirty water outflow meant for rinsing the filter material (see main-
tenance). Using the knob on the cover the outflow can be moved from 'run' to 'clean'
(at PF 10000/15000). Use a hose with a diameter that corresponds with the diameter
of the pump outlet. Saw off the unused diameters on the hose swivel. Use hose
clamps for a watertight connection. After the filter has been positioned next to the
pond and the pump has been installed, the built-in UV-C unit can be switched on.
Check activation of the UV-C lamp through the transparent cover on the lid. The red
switch on top of the lid lights up when the UV-C lamp is active (at PF 10000/15000).
The UV-C Unit
The Pressure Filters have a separate chamber, which prevents the UV-C radiation
from coming into contact with the filter materials. So the micro-organisms in the
filter material are not harmed. The advantages of UV-C are widely known; it clarifies
green water and is an excellent aid in combating bacterial infections. The effective
life of the UV-C lamp is ca. 7000 hours. It is recommended to replace the UV-C lamp
and clean the quartz glass at the start of the pond season. Proceed as follows:
l De-activate the power supply to the UV-C unit and the connected pump.
l PF 6000: open the black cap by loosening the screws of the ring.
l PF 10000/15000: open the transparent cap by loosening the black screw.
l Remove the cable support (and the screws of the UV-C unit at PF 10000/15000).
l Open the unit and handle the quartz glass and lamp with care.
l Remove (lime) deposit, if any, with vinegar and a soft cloth.
l Replace the lamp and place the lamp protector round the top of the new lamp.
l Assemble all parts in reverse order. Take care that the rubber ring will be mounted
in the right way.
