Connecting the loudspeakers
The remote amplifier and the loudspeaker are connected using two Speakon cables: one 8-point Speakon cable and one
4-point Speakon cable. The Speakon cables connecting the amplifier to the loudspeaker must not exceed 3 metres in length.
The cabling within the 8-point Speakon is as follows:
- 1+/-: Woofer (112) / Left woofer (212)
- 2+/-: Not connected (112) / Right woofer (212)
- 3+/-: Midrange (112) / High midrange (212)
- 4+/-: Not connected (112) / Low midrange (212)
The cabling within the 4-point Speakon is as follows:
- 1+/-: Tweeter (112 and 212)
- 2+/-: LED on the front panel of the loudspeaker
Positioning (fig. F, G)
Utopia Main 112 and Utopia Main 212 are far-field monitoring loudspeakers and therefore designed to be positioned at a
distance of around 6.6 to 16.4 feet (2 to 5 metres) from the listener, and pointing towards them. For Utopia Main 112, it is also
possible to turn the midrange/tweeter plate. The loudspeakers must be placed on a fixed floor-mounted stand, and their
entire surface area must be resting upon it. A stand is not fixed if it is fitted onto castors. The stand must be able to withstand
at least double the loudspeaker's weight.
Ensure that you remove the loudspeaker from its transportation trolley before installing it. This is only used to take the
loudspeaker to where it is going to be permanently set up.
Positioning the midrange/tweeter plate
The midrange/tweeter plate on the Utopia Main 112 can be rotated 360° in 90° steps, and can also be positioned to either the
right or left of the loudspeaker.
This allows you to configure the monitor according to the room and installation constraints.
Procedure to follow to position the midrange/tweeter plate
1) Remove the 10 screws using a No. 4 Allen key, keeping the midrange/tweeter plate and Focal logo plate together (fig. D).
2) Pull the plate out by around 4" (10cm) by tilting it (fig. E).
3) Turn the plate until you achieve the desired position. Check that the mounting inserts are aligned with the holes
on the plate, to ensure perfect alignment between the screws and the holes on the plate/mounting inserts (fig. D).
4) To ensure the plate is correctly fitted, you must adhere to the following 3 points:
4.1. Position the plate. Following a star pattern, insert and manually tighten the 10 screws.
4.2. Tighten the screws in a star pattern. Use the electric screwdriver on a low power setting.
4.3. Tighten again, in a criss-cross pattern. Use the electric screwdriver on a more intense power setting. Next, ensure the screws
are properly tightened.
5) The monitor is ready to use.
