GENERAL SAFETY AND MACHINE USE GUIDELINES
Note : Failure to read and follow these instructions
could lead to serious injury. Like all machines,
bench grinders give rise to hazards relating to the
use and handling of machines in general. The risks
of injury are considerably reduced by careful use
and proper handling. On the other hand, failure to
take elementary precautions will inevitably lead
to injury hazards for the operator. The machine
is designed specifically for its recommended use.
That is why users are strongly advised against
using the machine for operations for which it was
not designed by the manufacturer, or modifying
the machine in any way. If you have any queries
about use and cannot find the answer in these
instructions, please contact your distributor, who
will be glad to offer you professional advice.
GENERAL SAFETY AND MACHINE USE GUIDELINES
1. For your own safety, never start up a machine
before carefully reading its instructions for use.
The instructions will provide information about
the machine and how it is to be used, make you
familiar with its possibilities and operating limits
and draw your attention to the risks resulting
from negligence.
2. Keep all safety guards in perfect working order
and do not remove them.
3. Connect electrically operated machines with
a mains plug with an earth contact to an outlet
with an earth connection. Never start a machine if
it is not connected to the earth.
4. Before starting up the machine, move away all
the adjustment levers or keys that are not integral
to the machine. Develop the habit of checking
that there is no mobile part near moving parts.
5. Clear a sufficient working space around the
machine. Cluttered work surfaces and manoeu-
vring areas inevitably lead to injuries.
6. Do not use the machine in a hazardous
environment. Do not operate electric machines
in humid premises. Do not expose them to rain.
Make sure that the work surface and the area of
movement of the operator are well lit.
7. Keep visitors and children away from the ma-
chine and make sure they stay at a safe distance
from the working area.
8. Protect the working area from entry by
unauthorised persons. Place locks on the doors or
padlock the main switch in order to avoid starting
up by children.
9. Make sure that the machine is not overloaded
by the job. Efficiency is improved and safety is
better assured when the machine is used within
its capacity limits.
10. Do not use the machine for work other than
that for which it is designed.
11. Wear appropriate work clothing. Avoid loose
clothes, gloves, scarves, rings, necklaces, chains
and other jewellery that could be caught by mo-
ving parts. Wear non-skid safety shoes.
12. Always wear protective goggles and a dust
mask whenever required. Follow the occupational
injury prevention guidelines.
13. Always clamp the work piece in a vice or a
clamping device. Manual holding leads to risks
and it is better to leave both hands free for using
and handling the machine.
14. Take up a position where your body is stable
(position of feet, balance).
15. Keep the machine in good condition. Keep the
cutting edges clean and sharp in order to make
the most of all the capacities of the machine.
Follow the instructions for use when cleaning,
lubricating and replacing tools.
16. Disconnect the mains plug before carrying out
any maintenance work or before replacing compo-
nents such as saw blades, drill bits, cutting tools,
etc.
17. Only use the recommended accessories and
follow the instructions given in that regard in the
instructions for use. The use of accessories that
are foreign to the system leads to injury hazards.
18. Avoid unintentional starting up. Every time
you connect the machine to the mains, always
check first that the machine is switched off.
19. Never climb onto the machine. Very serious
injury can result from tipping over or contact with
the cutting tool.
20. Check the machine for any defects. Damaged
parts or protective systems must be correctly
repaired or replaced before continuing the work.
21. Never let a machine run unattended. Always
cut off the mains power supply and do not leave
the machine before it has come to a complete
halt.
22. Never work with machines when under the
effect of alcohol, certain medication or drugs.
23. Make sure that the power is switched off be-
fore working on the electrical parts, drive motor,
etc.
