DPB 13/5 PLUS
Quill return spring (Fig. 9):
It may be necessary to adjust your quill return
spring if the tension is such that the quill returns
either too quickly or too slowly. To do so, lower the
table for additional clearance. Work from left side
of drill press. Move the stop nuts (B 1/2) down to
their lowest position and lock in place with wrench
to prevent quill dropping while tensioning spring.
Place screwdriver in lower front notch (C) of spring
cap (D), and hold it in place. Remove the screw (E)
and the nut (E) by using an Allen wrench. Careful-
ly turn screwdriver anticlockwise and engage next
notch in boss (G). Do not remove screwdriver. Install
the nut (E) and the screw (E) again. If there is not
enough tension on spring, repeat steps moving
one notch each time and checking tension after
repetition. Proper tension is achieved when quill re-
turns gently to full up position when released from
20mm depth. Check quill while feeding to have
smooth and unrestricted movement. If movement
is too tight, loosen Allen screw (E) and knurled nut
(F). Check if the spindle can move freely again and
retighten.
The angular play of the spindle (Fig. 10):
With the spindle in a low position, take it in your
hand and try to make it revolving around its axis. If
there is too much play, proceed as follows:
1. Loosen lock nut (L).
2. Turn the screw (I) clockwise to eliminate the play
but without obstructing the upward and down-
ward motion of the spindle (a little bit of play is
normal).
3. Tighten the lock nut.
NOTE:
The installed electric motor is completely wired ready
for operation. The customer's connection to the pow-
er supply system, and any extension cables that may
be used, must conform with local regulations. Check
electrical connection cables regularly for damage.
Make sure the cable is disconnected from the mains
when checking. Electrical connection cables must
comply with the regulations applicable in your coun-
try.
Single-phase motor:
The mains voltage must coincide with the voltage
f
specified on the motor's rating plate.
Dimension cables up to a length of 25m must
f
have a cross-section of 1.5mm
at least 2.5mm
.
2
The connection to the mains must be protected
f
with an appropriate slow acting fuse.
NOTE:
The motor is automatically switched off in the event of
an overload. The motor can be switched on again after
a cooling down period that can vary.
WARNING:
Connect the machine only to a socket with the proper-
ly installed ground contact.
OPERATING THE UNIT
WARNING:
For your own safety, keep the machine switch in off
position while performing any of the below proce-
dures. Machine should be turned on, only if a specific
step of the procedure states so and only for that par-
ticular step.
Pivoting the table (Fig. 11):
Adjusting table height (Fig. 12):
NOTE:
It is better to lock the table to the column in a position
so that the tip of the drill bit is just slightly above the
top of the work piece.
Installing drill bits:
WARNING:
Only cylindrical tools with the stipulated maximum
shaft diameter may be clamped in the scroll chuck
(Fig. 1.5). Only use a tool that is sharp and free of
defects. Do not use tools whose shaft is damaged or
which are deformed or flawed in any other way. Use
only accessories and attachments that are specified
in the operating instructions or have been approved
by the manufacturer. If the pillar drill should become
jammed, switch off the machine and return the drill to
its starting position.
Choosing speed and tensioning belt (Fig. 13):
and beyond 25m
2
To bring the table (3) to the inclined position, re-
lease the table locking (h) and adjust the desired
table angle. Re-tighten the table locking
Loosen the table support lock handle (b). Adjust the
table (3) to the desired height. Re-tighten the table
lock handle (b).
Insert the drill bit into chuck far enough to obtain
maximum gripping of chuck jaws. When using a
small drill bit do not insert it so far that the jaws
touch the spiral grooves of the drill bit. Make sure
that the drill bit is centered in the chuck before
tightening the chuck with the chuck key. Tighten
the drill chuck sufficiently, so that the drill bit does
not slip while drilling.
Turn the chuck key clockwise to tighten, anticlock-
wise to loosen. Tighten the drill bit equally by using
all three holes in succession. The drill bit can be re-
lease by using one hole only.
You can set different spindle speeds on your pillar
drilling machine:
1. Open pulley cover.
2. Loosen the drive belt on the right side of the ma-
chine head by unfastening the wing screws (12)
on both sides. Pull the right side of the motor in
the direction of the spindle to loosen the v-belt.
Tighten the wing screws again.
3. Attach the v-belt to the corresponding belt pul-
leys (Fig. 16). Available speeds are achieved with
the following v-belt combinations:
600 rpm
A
900 rpm
B
1.450 rpm
C
1.950 rpm
D
2.500 rpm
E
