It is advisable to earth the battery charger to comply
with the CE guidelines.
Warning!
Earthing 230 Volt electrical apparatus on board of a ship that is
not connected via a quayside connection with a quay socket
protected against earth leakage is only worthwhile, if an earth
leakage protection or chassis insulation protection is present
(floating mains).
Consult your installer for this.
Additionally the local regulations that can differ per country are
of importance and also their application can be important (often
special rules apply for professional shipping and in particular
passenger ships).
VETUS can not accept responsibility for use of the battery
charger contrary to the local regulations.

Operation

After connecting the battery, charging starts automatically and
the 'ON' LED shall light up to indicate this.
The VETUS battery charger has a charging type that can be
denoted as IUoU-float.
BOOST-PHASE
The battery charger begins to charge the battery with the maxi-
mum charging current.
Current limit adjust range, in case a remote control panel is con-
nected:
Type battery charger
BC12202A
BC12263A
BC12403A
BC12603A
BC12803A
BC24303A
BC24503A
BC24803A
As soon as the gas pressure of the battery is reached (See '7
Technical details', charge voltage, Boost), the charge voltage
shall not further increase and the current will gradually
decrease.
FLOAT-PHASE
If the charging current has decreased to approx. 10% of the
maximum charging current, the charging voltage will be
decreased to the Float Voltage (see '7 Technical details', charg-
ing current, Float). This reduces the water usage of the batter-
ies.

Protection

The battery charger switches itself off at the following malfunc-
tions and switches itself on again once the malfunction is
resolved:
- Mains voltage too low or too high
- Short circuiting of the output
- Battery voltage too high
- Battery charger at too high a temperature
By wrongly connecting plus and minus of the battery the charg-
ing current fuse will blow.

80 A - 40 A (BC24803A) selector switch
The BC24803A battery charger has an 80 A - 40 A selector
switch, with which the maximum charging current of the charg-
er can be set.
By reducing the maximum charging current the amount of
power consumed is simultaneously lowered. A shore power
connection with an otherwise too low fuse can then be used to
charge the batteries.
