System operation

5.1.1
General
The pump operates according to the booster principle. The inlet air pressure is amplified to
approximately 100 times higher hydraulic pressure by a pneumatic plunger connected to a hydraulic
plunger. Each pump is provided with a safety valve to limit the maximum pressure. Never change the
setting of this safety valve.
Depending on the type of connecting coupler, the pump is suitable for use in combination with the
CORE™ system or the dual / single hose system.
The tool has a hydraulic cylinder containing a piston that can move axially. If the cylinder is pumped full
from the bottom, the pressure builds up beneath the piston so that it is pushed to the outside. The axial
movement of the piston is used directly to a cylinder or transferred to a spreading or cutting mechanism.
On double-acting tools, the direction of the movement of the piston is determined by the open or closed
position of the control valve on the pump.
The hose is the piece of equipment that connects the pump to the tool, thus creating a closed system.
5.1.2
CORE™ couplers
The hydraulic hose of the CORE™ system is a single hose, that combines a high pressure supply hose
inside a low pressure return hose. The female coupler has a unique function: after disconnection it
connects the supply and the return lines internally. This means you can connect and disconnect tools
without interrupting the oil supply to the hose.
5.1.3
Dual-hose couplers
The dual-hose couplers are used on single or dual hoses.
In case of dual hoses, the supply hose and the return hose are bundled together with ties. Each end of
the hose(s) has a female and a male coupler.
If you want to connect or disconnect a tool and/or a hose, you must first set the pressure relief valve on
the pump to the "neutral" position. After connecting the hose(s) and the tool you must set the pressure
relief valve to the "operation" position so you can use the tool.
5.2
Compressed air source
The pump must be connected to a compressed air source with a minimum capacity of 0.56 m
maximum pressure of 8 bar. A filter-lubricator unit suitable for that capacity must be installed in the air
hose to the pump. A filter-lubricator unit consists of (Fig. 11): an air filter with water separator, a
pressure regulator and a mist lubricator. The mist lubricator is set at one drop per minute. Use SAE
number 10 oil.
5.3

Foot pedal

The foot pedal operates an air valve to start or stop the pump. One side of the foot pedal is marked
"PUMP" (Fig. 1/C) and the other side is marked "RELEASE" (Fig. 1/A).
Start the pump by pressing "PUMP".
Stop the pump by removing the foot from the foot pedal. The pump stops and the pressure is
maintained.
Press "RELEASE" to depressurise the pump and remove hydraulic pressure from the system.
