4.3.2 Test dissolved oxygen sensor
4.3.3 Test MCOMS sensor
4.3.4 Test SUNA sensor
Pressure should be 0.0 ± 0.5 dbar. Temperature should be close to room
temperature. Salinity should be approximately 0.0 PSU.
7. Enter sx to see a full scan of all connected sensors.
The steps below apply to both the SBE 83 and the SBE 63. Both sensors measure
dissolved oxygen. The SBE 83 sensor has an optical sensor and a secondary
temperature sensor. These are located in the flow path, so there is no access. Use the
firmware to test the SBE 83.
1. Enter od to see the configuration and coefficients.
2. Enter om to see the voltage input and current draw.
Voltage should be approximately 11.0 ± 0.5 V.
Current should be approximately 0.05 ± 0.02 A.
3. Enter os to see oxygen data.
The phase delay should be 10–45 µseconds and temperature should be 0.3–1.5 V.
fDOM sensors use an ultraviolet LED light source. Do not look directly at a UV LED
when it is on. It can cause damage to the eyes. Keep products that have UV LEDs
away from children, pets, and other living organisms. Wear polycarbonate UV-resistant
safety glasses to protect the eyes when a UV LED is on.
The MCOMS is a three-channel optical sensor that measures chlorophyll fluorescence,
backscatter, and fDOM. Remove the protective cap to verify that the optical face is clean
and that there are no scratches. If necessary, clean the face with deionized water and a
clean lint-free cloth. Swipe from the center of the face outward.
1. Enter fm to see voltage input and current draw.
Voltage should be approximately 11.0 ± 0.5 V.
Current should be between 80 and 130 mA.
2. Enter fs to take a sample.
The output should be close to the dark counts shown on the calibration sheet.
3. Put a piece of paper over the optical face and take a sample to verify that the signal
increases.
4. Put the protective cap on the optical face again.
Nitrate sensors use an ultraviolet (UV) light. Do not look directly at a UV light when it is
on. It can cause damage to the eyes. Keep products that have UV light away from
children, pets, and other living organisms. Wear polycarbonate UV-resistant safety
glasses to protect the eyes when a UV light is on.
The SUNA and the earlier version, ISUS, are nitrate sensors. The SUNA is under the
"IsusAgent." Note that if the o command is sent before the file system is started (profiling
mode) the Navis will reset with a "watchdog error."
