Personnel which installs and operates or maintains this device must have read and under-
stood these instructions.
Safety regulations
Installation, commissioning, modification and retrofitting must only be performed by a
qualified electrician.
Disconnect the device/system from the power supply before starting work. If installation
or system errors occur, mains voltage may be present at the control circuit in the case of
non-electrically isolated devices.
When installing the equipment, please observe the electrotechnical and professional
trade association safety regulations.
Opening the case or manipulating the equipment in any other way will render any warran-
ties null and void.
In the case of improper use or any use other than for the intended purpose, the device
must no longer be used and any warranty claims shall be void. Exposure to the following
(amongst other things) is not permitted: significant mechanical strain on the device (e.g. if
the device is dropped); voltages, currents, temperatures, humidity levels outside the
specifications.
Always check all safety functions in accordance with the applicable regulations during ini-
tial commissioning of your machine/system, and observe the specified inspection cycles
for safety devices.
The application-specific standards must be observed when installing and operating the
device.
The device must be installed in accordance with IEC 60364-4-44.
Take the following safety precautions before starting installation/assembly or disassem-
bly work:
1. Disconnect the device/system from the power supply before starting work.
2. Secure the machine/system to prevent it being switched back on.
3. Confirm that no voltage is present.
4. Earth the phases and short-circuit them briefly.
5. Cover and shield neighboring live parts.
6. The devices must be installed in a switch cabinet with a protection class of at least IP54.
Limited contact protection.
− Protection class according to EN 60529: IP20.
− Finger-proof according to EN 50274.
The contact protection of the connected elements and the insulation of the supply lines
must be designed for the highest voltage applied to the device.
The safety function must be checked again if the devices have been operated outside the
specification for current, voltage or temperature limits. This is especially true if a fuse
has tripped.
According to the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, operation is only permitted with a
PELV/SELV power supply according to EN 60364-4-41.
1 Function description
Once the supply voltage (L1/L+) is applied to terminal A1 via the non-actuated Emergency
Stop button and to terminal A2 via the neutral conductor (N/M), the reset button between
terminals Y1 and Y2 is used to activate switch-on monitoring. This actuates relays K1 and K2.
Following the response time t
, K1 and K2 lock. At the same time, switch-on monitoring is
A
deactivated. Following this switch-on phase, the two enabling current paths (13/14 and
23/24) intended for the output are closed. An LED assigned to the safety channels is used to
indicate these statuses. If the Emergency Stop button is pressed, the power supplies for re-
lays K1 and K2 are interrupted. The enabling current paths at the output are opened.
Notes
Before the reset button is activated, the Emergency Stop chain must be closed.
The performance level (PL) and safety category in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1 de-
pend on the external wiring, the application case, the choice of control device and how
this is physically arranged on the machine.
The user must carry out a risk assessment in accordance with EN ISO 14121-1.
The entire system/machine must undergo validation in accordance with the applicable
standards on the basis of this.
The specified performance level will only be achieved if, taking into account the prevailing
device load (see EN ISO 13849-1, Table C.1) and the application case, an average number
of switching cycles per year is not exceeded (see EN ISO 13849-1, C.4.2 and Table K.1). As-
suming that the B10d value for the maximum load is 400,000, this results in a maximum
cycle number of 400,000 / 0.1 × 30 = 133,333 switching cycles/year.
The safety-related characteristics only apply if the relays are switched at least once per
year.
Operating the device other than specified may result in malfunctions or destruction of the
device.
The device must be checked to ensure it is in perfect working order before commission-
ing, after replacement of modules and/or in the case of changes to an installation that has
already undergone acceptance.

Proper use
The device is used for monitoring control devices in Emergency Stop
1)
equipment. Emergency Stop equipment is part of the safety equipment
for machinery, which is installed in order to protect persons, material
and machinery. In the event of interruptions > t
the enabling paths. Operation below the minimum operating voltage (<
0.85 × U
Only use the device in accordance with its intended purpose. Pay partic-
ular attention to the information in the technical data.
The connection cables must not be stripped to more than 8 mm.
The expansion units of the SNE series or external contactors with positively-driven con-
tacts can be used to duplicate the enabling current paths.
The device and contacts must be fused with a maximum 6 A operating class gG.
Automatic restart (in accordance with EN 60204-1, Section 9.2.5.4.2 and 10.8.3) must be
prevented using the higher-level control.
The safety functions have not been checked by UL. The certification process has been car-
ried out in accordance with the requirements for general applications as stipulated by
UL508.
2 Mounting and removal
Mounting
1. Attach the device to the DIN rail.
2. Snap the device onto the DIN rail by ap-
plying slight pressure in the direction of
the arrow.
3 Behavior in the event of a malfunction
Locking: If the device becomes locked (e.g. due to a brief power failure), it can be un-
locked by opening and closing the safety equipment.
Short circuits: If short circuits occur on the control lines, the electronic fuse is tripped.
The device will be ready for operation again once the short circuit has been rectified and
the fuse has had a brief recovery period.
Contact malfunctions: Activation is not possible if the contacts are welded.
4 Disposal
Unusable or irreparable devices must always be disposed of in accordance with the relevant
country-specific disposal regulations that apply (e.g. European waste code 16 02 04).
