Maintenance
5.1 Protection from dust
After use, cover the microscope with the dust-cover provided. If dust settles on
the lenses, bow it off using a syringe or special duster. Lenses are delicate
and can be scratched by dust.
5.2 Fingerprints
Do not touch the lenses. If they should become marked by fingers, remove the
marks with a soft cloth or using a special lens cleanser and wipe dry with lens-
cleaning tissue.
5.3 Damp
Moisture, especially in combination with changes in temperature, is particularly
harmful to mounted lenses. Microscopes should be kept in a dry place in their
polystyrene boxes with a desiccating sachet.
5.4 Dismantling
A microscope is a delicate precision instrument. If it has to be dismantled (for
maintenance) it should be returned to the supplier or to sent to a qualified
workshop.
The plate that closes it on the bottom should only be opened by an
electrician, for the housing must remain electrically safe. Only dismantle
the microscope when it has been unplugged from the mains.
