7. INSTALLATION AND HYDRAULIC CONNECTION
7.1 Installation
Install the pressure keeping system in a room that provides an easy
access, well ventilated, frost-proof and protected against rain.
Be sure that the dimension of the technical room door is adequate to
enter a booster.
Adequate space must be provided for maintenance work. The instal-
lation should be freely accessible from at least two sides.
The installation surface must be level and horizontal.
7.2 Hydraulic connection
ATTENTION! Observe the requirements from the water supply
companies and the local rule into force.
- For the vertical version the connection of the suction and delivery
manifolds can be made either on the right or left hand sides of the
installation. It is recommended to close the ports that are not used
with thread caps or blind flanges.
- Valves must be fitted on the manifolds to isolate the booster if need
be.
- The installation must be fitted with a diaphragm pressure tank.
(See the respective technical and operating instruction).
- The existing pipes must be installed free from stresses.
Compensators with length limiters for flexible connecting pipes are
recommended for this purpose in order to avoid stresses on the pipe
connections and minimise the transmission of installation vibrations to
the building installation.
7.3 Electrical connection
WARNING! Electrical shock hazard! Electrical connections
and checks must be performed by an authorized electrician
and according to the standards into force.
To make the electrical connection, the corresponding installation
and operating instructions and attached electrical circuit diagrams
must be observed. General points to be considered are listed below:
- The type of current and voltage of the mains connection must
comply with the details on the type plate and the circuit diagram
of the control box.
- The electrical connecting cable must be adequately dimensioned
according to the total power of the booster (see type plate).
- As a protection measure, the booster must be earthed according
to the rules (i.e according to the local regulations and circum-
stances). The connections intended for this purpose are identified
according (see circuit diagram).
- The base frame has to be connected to earth by using an earth
braid linked to the frame (FIG. 1c, pos. 11).
7.4 Float switch
The electrical connection of switches float level at the terminals of
the control box is factory.
They are installed on the tank:
- Float lack of water (pos. 18):
In the tank, position the float running protection so that the system
stops when the minimum water level is reached, at least 10 cm
above the drain plug from the pump.
- Float filling (pos. 17):
In the tank, position the float filler so that the system meets the water
level when filling is reached.
8. COMMISSIONING
We recommend that the booster is first commissioned by nearest
SALMSON's customer service agent or ask your central customer ser-
vice department.
8.1 General preparation and checking
- Before switching on for the first time, check the wiring has been
done correctly on site, particularly the earthing.
- Check that the pipe connections are stress-free.
- Fill the installation and check visually for leaks.
- Open the shut-off valves on the pumps and in the suction and dis-
charge manifold.
- Open the pump vent screws and slowly fill the pumps with water so
that the air can escape completely.
ATTENTION! Do not allow the pump to run dry. Dry running
destroys the mechanical seal.
- Check the direction of rotation of pump: during a brief start, check
whether the direction of rotation of the pumps is the arrow on the
label on the pump. If the rotation is incorrect, interchange two
phases.
WARNING! Electrical shock hazard!
Switch off the installation main switch before changing over
the phases.
- Check the motor heat protections inside the control box are set for
the right nominal current (see the manual leaflet of the control box).
- On the control box check and set the operating parameters
required according to the attached installation and operating
instruction.
8.2 Filling of the installation
After all preparations and checks according to section 8.1 have
been done, switch on the main switch. The filling of installation is done
as following.
- Open isolation valve of system (pos. 12).
- Close the dischargers (pos. 8) by turning the adjustment knob set
in clockwise.
- Follow the fillling from the controller :
• Put filling mode in « auto »
• Start pump with « Manu »
• Until the complete filling of installation.
8.3 Adjustment of control box
For automatism settings refer to the instructions of the control box.
Levels of starting and stopping of pumps can be adjusted depending
on the pressure to be maintained.
Minimum Operating Pressure = Static head of building + security
guard (5 to 10 meters).
Stop pressure = Start pressure + 0.5bar (may vary depending on ins-
tallation).
Levels of system security are determined in relation to these setpoints.
Too much pressure: pressure pump stops increased to around 0.5b to
1b.
Pressure too low: pressure pump stopping minus around 1b to 1.3b.
8.4 Adjustment of discharger
After adjusting the control box (See instructions control box) or you
can set the dischargers.
NOTE: Before making any adjustments to determine the pres-
sure value to maintain (Early opening of the discharger):
Pressure stop pump fell off around 0.1b.
Principle:
The adjustment made by turning the knob set. Turn the knob clock-
wise increases the pressure to be maintained constant.
For horizontal versions proceed as follows:
- Turn back the set of overflow (FIG. 2a-2b-2c, rep. 8) clockwise.
- Close the isolation valve (FIG. 2a, pos. 12) in version 1 pump (not
included in 2 pumps version).
- Set switch (s) running on pump « MANU » to raise the pressure in
the system.
- Release the switch (es) to the desired opening pressure. To adjust
the drain valve of the boiler.
