Connect WS configuration settings
Stored IP configuration
This section displays how the IP address for the Connect WS is obtained. You can obtain an IP address for your device
two different ways; either automatically using DHCP, or manually by entering a static IP address, subnet mask, and
default gateway.
By default, the Connect WS terminal server uses a DHCP server to obtain its IP address information. A DHCP server
automatically provides an IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and Domain Name System (DNS) server for your
device.
If DHCP is disabled, an IP address is assigned through AutoIP, and all configuration settings need to be done
manually. In the absence of a DHCP server, a static IP address needs to be assigned. You can do this by accessing the
device through the Digi Device Discovery Utility, and changing the network settings through the web UI.
IP address
The IP address is a 4-part ID assigned to network devices. An IP address is like a telephone number for a computer
where each number is between 0 and 255. Other network devices can talk to your Connect WS device using this ID.
Subnet mask
The subnet mask is combined with the IP address to determine which network your device is a part of. A common
Subnet Mask looks something like 255.255.255.0.
Default gateway
The default gateway is the IP address of the computer that allows your device to access other networks such as the
Internet.
Domain name service configuration
The Domain Name Service Configuration section shows the two domain name system servers that are to be used as
static servers when dynamic mechanisms do not supply enough DNS servers.
Wireless network settings
Similar to the Ethernet Network settings page, the wireless network settings page displays the current IP address and
DHCP settings for wireless network communications.
Wi-Fi configuration wizard
The Wi-Fi configuration wizard configures the security parameters of the Wi-Fi interface. This wizard gives a Connect
WS device the wireless parameters needed to further configure wireless settings and operations.
Note
Before running the wizard, confirm that Wi-Fi is enabled by checking "Enable this network interface."
SSID
The SSID should be set to the name of your wireless access point. If your device is being configured in the
environment where it will be used, the SSID should be available among the list of SSIDs in step one of the Wi-Fi
configuration wizard.
If your device is being configured before it is deployed in the environment where it will be used, then it is likely that
the SSID may need to be entered manually in the "Network SSID" field.
Step two of the Wi-Fi configuration wizard prompts you to enter the security mode of your device and its associated
parameters.
