Replacing the Laterals
1.
Unbolt or unclamp and remove the dial valve on
your filter. Lift out the diverter (if applicable), the
upper standpipe, and the basket from the filter.
Remove the sand! (Note: Please do not tip the
tank over to remove the sand; scoop out or use a
"shop vac". Remove enough sand so that it does
not interfere with the proper reinstallation of the
standpipe assembly which must sit firmly on the
bottom of the tank.)
2.
Raise the standpipe assembly to the top of the filter
and unsnap the old laterals.
3.
Rinse any remaining sand off the standpipe
assembly.
4.
Install the eight (8) new laterals. The laterals must
be firmly "snapped" into position. In the correct
position, the locking snap will be in the 6 o'clock
or "down" position. The slots on the laterals will
be in 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock or "side" positions.
See figure 1 for an illustration of how the laterals
are snapped in.
5.
Place the standpipe assembly back into the
bottom of the tank. Press firmly to make sure it is
securely seated. Replace the basket and the upper
standpipe.

6.
Place your fill-spout (included with original filter)
over the upper standpipe to center the standpipe
and to prevent entrance of any sand in the
standpipe.
7.
Fill the tank assembly 1/2 full of water.
8.
Add #20 silica sand in the amount recommended
for your specific filter size. Be sure that the
standpipe remains centered while pouring the
sand. Remove the fill-spout and level the sand.
The sand should be 1"- 2" below the basket (see
next step).
9.
Place the diverter (if applicable) back onto the
basket, and then carefully remove any sand from
the valve mounting location on the tank.
10. Position the O-ring on the dial valve body.
Reposition the valve on the tank so that it matches
the existing plumbing. Install the V-clamp. To
ensure a positive seal of the O-ring, gently tap
around the clamp with a solid object to help seat
the V-clamp.
11. Follow the instructions in your Owner's Manual
for re-starting your equipment.
