DISASSEMBLY
General Instructions
Never apply excessive pressure by a holding device
S
which may cause distortion of a part.
Apply pressure evenly to parts, which have a press
S
fit.
Apply even pressure to the bearing race that will be
S
press fitted to the mating part.
Use correct tools and fixtures when servicing this
S
tool.
Don't damage O- -Ring when servicing this tool.
S
Use only genuine ARO replacement parts for this
S
tool. When ordering, specify part number, descrip-
tion, tool model number and serial number.
Disassembly of Motor:
1. Remove Sanding Pad (34).
2. Remove Lock Ring (33) - - Left Hand Threads - - and
Shroud (32).
3. Remove Motor Assembly and Pin (18).
Note: It may be necessary to tap housing with a
soft face hammer to loosen motor from housing.
4. Remove Retaining Ring (19).
5. Using special blocks to fit around outside diameter of
Cylinder, clamp around Cylinder and press Shaft of
counterbalance thru Bearing (20) and End Plate (21).
6. Remove Blades (23), Rotor (24) and Key (26).
7. Remove other Bearing (20) and End Plate (21).
Throttle Disassembly:
1. Remove shroud (32) - - see 'Motor Disassembly'.
2. Unthread Adapter (12) and pull Vacuum Adapter (6)
and Adapter (12) from tool, releasing Spring (10) and
Valve (9).
Note: Do not remove seat (8) unless damage is
evident.
3. Remove O- -Ring (11) from Adapter (12).
4. Unthread and remove Exhaust Adapter (4) and
O- -Ring (5).
5. Remove Retaining Ring (17), releasing Regulator
(15) with O- -Ring (16) and Valve Stem (14).
6. To remove Lever (3), remove Roll Pin (2).
MAINTENANCE SECTION
Assembly of Motor:

10. Align notches in End Plates and Cylinder and install
11. Assemble Motor to Housing, aligning Pin (18) with
12. Seat Spacer (25) against End Plate (21).
13. Assemble Shroud (32) over Lock Ring (33) and
14. Assemble Sanding Pad (34) to tool.
Throttle Assembly:

10. Assemble Spring (10) to Housing.
11. Assemble Vacuum Adapter (6) and components to

ASSEMBLY
Assemble Bearings (20) into End Plates (21), press-
ing on outer race of Bearings.
Assemble Spacer (25) over Counterbalance (27).
Assemble one End Plate (21), with Bearing (20), onto
shaft of Counterbalance.
Install Key (26) in key slot.
Assemble Rotor (24) to Counterbalance, aligning
keyway to Key (26).
Assemble five Rotor Blades (23) to Rotor slots - -
straight side out.
Assemble Cylinder (22) over Rotor.
Assemble other End Plate (21) to shaft of Counterbal-
ance, pressing on inner race of Bearing.
Install Retaining Ring (19) to groove in Counterbal-
ance, with bow of ring positioned as shown on parts
illustration page.
Roll Pin (18) to notches.
groove in Housing.
thread Lock Ring into Housing - - Left Hand Threads.
Tighten securely.
Grease and assemble O- -Ring (5) to Exhaust Adapter (4).
Assemble Exhaust Adapter (4) to Housing.
Assemble Adapter (12) thru hole in right side of Vac-
uum Adapter (6).
Grease and assemble O- -Ring (11) to Adapter (12).
Assemble seat (8) into Housing with rounded corners
into Housing first.
Grease and assemble O- -Ring (16) to Regulator (15).
Assemble Valve Stem (14) to Housing, with hole in
Valve Stem in line with Housing to accept Valve (9).
Coat Valve (9) with ARO 29665 spindle oil and as-
semble to Housing, securing Valve Stem (14).
Assemble Regulator (15) to Housing, securing with
Retaining Ring (17).
Housing, securing Valve (9) and Spring (10).
