This heat pump contains the flammable refrigerant R32.
Important information
Any intervention on the refrigerant circuit may only be carried out by qualified
specialists and is prohibited for people without valid certificate of competence.
Before working on the refrigerant circuit, the following precautions are necessary
to ensure safe working:
1. Work procedure
Work must be carried out according to a controlled procedure in order to minimise the risk
of leaks of flammable gases or vapours.
2. General work area
All persons being in the surrounding area of the workplace have to be informed about the
nature of the work in progress. Flame and heat sources in the vicinity are to be avoided. It
is not permitted to work on the heat pump in confined spaces. The area around the work-
place must be closed off and secured.
3.Verification of leaking refrigerant in the vicinity
The area around the heat pump has to be checked with a suitable refrigerant detector be-
fore and during work to ensure that there is no leaking of potentially flammable gas. Make
sure that the leak detection equipment used is suitable for flammable refrigerants, i.e. it
does not produce any sparks, is properly sealed and is approved for the detection of refri-
gerant gases.
4. Fire extinguisher
When working on the heat pump or any associated part, appropriate fire extinguishing
equipment must be available. Dry-powder or CO2-extinguishers are suitable.
5. No source of flame, heat or sparks
It is absolutely forbidden to use a source of heat or ignition in the direct vicinity of systems
or pipes containing or having contained a flammable refrigerant. Before starting work, the
direct surrounding of the equipment has to be checked for this.
Smoking in the vicinity when working on systems with flammable refrigerants is absolutely
forbidden.
For safety reasons, "No smoking" signs must be posted.
6. Ventilation of the working area
Make sure that the area is in the open air and properly ventilated.
7. Inspection of the heat pump
If components are to be replaced, they must be suitable for the intended purpose and the
appropriate specifications. Only genuine spare parts of the manufacturer may be used. If
in doubt, please contact OEG.
Systems with flammable refrigerants have to be inspected in regular intervals for the fol-
lowing points:
• Ventilation and air vents work properly and are not obstructed;
• If an indirect refrigeration circuit is used, the secondary circuit must also be checked;
• The markings on the equipment are visible and and can be read well. Illegible marks and
signs must be replaced;
• Leak tests must be carried out subject to the quantity of refrigerant.
