Filling the Paint Mate
1. Slide the small end of the fill tube through
the hole in the can lid so that it will be
pointing up when the lid is secured to the
paint can.
2. Attach the can lid securely to the paint can.
NOTE: Applying a thin coat of
petroleum jelly to the end of the
fill tube will help the Paint Mate
slide easily off the fill tube.
3. Turn the switch on the main tube handle to
FILL.
4. Press down and firmly hold the fill valve of
the main tube onto the fill tube.
5. Pull the plunger to draw the paint into the main tube.
NOTE: If the plunger does not move
easily, twist it slightly to free it
from sticking.
NOTE: Make sure to press down firmly
on the main tube to make sure
the Paint Mate

fills properly.
Using the Paint Mate
Priming the Roller
Before painting, it is necessary to prime the
roller by saturating the roller cover with paint.
Once you have filled the main tube with paint,
you can prime the roller two ways. The first
and fastest way to saturate the roller cover is to
manually push the plunger forward until paint is
visible on the outside of the roller cover. The
switch on the main tube will need to be set to
FILL in order to manually push the plunger
forward.

Because priming the roller may use a lot of the
paint in the main tube, you may need to refill
the main tube after priming.
The second way to saturate the roller cover is
to use the automatic advance feature. To do
this, set the switch on the main tube to APPLY,
then squeeze the trigger on the main tube. The
plunger will automatically advance forward
slightly with each squeeze of the trigger.
®
NOTE: It will take several squeezes of
the trigger to fully saturate the
roller cover.
Whether you use the first or second way of
priming the roller, it is important that you do not
over-saturate the roller cover with paint. If the
roller cover is over-saturated, paint may drip off
of the roller or smear when applied to the
surface.
Applying Paint
Once the roller cover is saturated, make certain
the switch on the main tube is set to APPLY,
then apply paint to the painting surface. Keep
paint flowing to the roller by squeezing the
trigger as necessary.
Cleaning the Paint Mate
NOTE: Make sure the type of paint you
use can be cleaned with either
mineral spirits or a warm water
and mild soap solution.
Latex paints can be cleaned with warm water and
a mild soap solution. If you use oil-based paints,
we recommend cleaning up with mineral spirits.
Some oil-based paints require a stronger
cleaning solution than mineral spirits and
should not be used with the Paint Mate
®
Using a cleaning solution stronger than
mineral spirits may cause damage to the
Paint Mate
®
. Check with your paint supplier
to be sure the oil-based paint you have can
be cleaned with mineral spirits.
Emptying Excess Paint from the
Paint Mate
1. Turn the switch on the main tube handle to
FILL.
2. Pull the plunger back to draw any paint left
in the roller arm back into the main tube.
3. Press and firmly hold the fill valve of the
main tube onto the fill tube.
4. Push the plunger forward to empty the
paint from the main tube back through the
fill tube and into the main container.
