Thermogel breast
pads
PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUC-
TIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE USE
AND KEEP THEM FOR FUTURE
REFERENCE.
Thermogel breast pads offer you valid support
during the delicate period of breastfeeding.
Safe and easy to use, they provide imme-
diately relief in the case of breast engorge-
ment, breast tension, or before feeding to
accommodate milk flow, favouring calm
breastfeeding.
Used cold, they reduce inflammation and
soothe pain. When used as a hot treatment,
they permit the milk to flow more freely,
helping to resolve problems related to milk
blockage or stagnation and make breast-
feeding easier. Discrete, soft and effective,
the pads are easy to insert in a nursing bra.
WHEN TO USE THE THERMOGEL PADS
During breastfeeding, problems can arise that
could cause some discomfort for the mother:
LACTATION ONSET
This is a phenomenon, which is often an-
noying, that takes place 24 - 48 hours after
birth. It is characterised by significant swell-
ing of the mammary glands, accompanied
by congestion, an increase in the local tem-
perature and a sense of tension, which can
be considerable. The use of specific aids in
combination with the regular suckling of the
newborn and a delicate breast massage can
accommodate the milk flow and deconges-
tion of the breast (hot compresses) and pro-
vide relief (cold compresses).
BREAST ENGORGEMENT
This is a significant increase in mammary
size and tension, accompanied by swelling,
redness, pain, an increase in the local tem-
perature, followed by stagnation of milk
in the mammary ducts and glands. Breast
engorgement must be kept under control
because it could lead to the occurrence of
mastitis (infection of the breast tissue) with
fever that can also be high. The main cause
of the problem is insufficient suckling of the
nursing infant, which is not enough to emp-
ty the breast. This condition can be prevent-
ed by frequent breastfeeding or by emptying
the breast using a breast pump after every
feeding, and by applying hot local compress-
es that help the ducts to dilate and, when ac-
companied by a light breast massage, help
the milk come out. Cooling the area after
feeding helps soothe breast pain.
BREAST TENSION DUE TO EXCESSIVE MILK
When the frequency of feedings is reduced
when starting to wean the baby or when the
mother returns to work and must be away for
a part of the day, too much milk may be pro-
duced that will not be consumed by the baby.
The breast can become full and hard, with the
risk of engorgement. Also in this case, in addition
to emptying the breast using a breast pump, it
is useful to apply hot compresses before expres-
sion, and cold compresses afterwards.
HOW TO USE THE THERMOGEL PADS
There are 2 ways to prepare the Thermogel
pads for use.
1. For an effective cooling effect to soothe
breast pain, if the breast is swollen, place
the pads in the refrigerator (one or both
pads, as needed) and leave them in the
refrigerator at +4°C for at least 2 hours.
• They can always be left in the refrigerator so
that they are always ready to be used.
• Remove the pads from the refrigerator and
dry them with a cloth or kitchen paper towels.
• Insert them in the cotton covers and place
them inside the bra cups for 20 minutes or
as needed.
BEFORE APPLYING THEM ON THE
BREASTS, TEST THE PRODUCT ON THE
BACK OF YOUR HAND TO MAKE SURE
THE TEMPERATURE IS CORRECT.
It is recommended to position the larger part of
the pad on the most painful part of the breast.
