Connector (EN 362)
Locking carabiner (EN 12275)
Type B
Oval connector (fixed rigging, pulley systems...)
The Keylock system removes the risk of accidental
snagging. The Keylock slot must be kept free
of dirt (soil, grit etc). While the screw-barrel is
open, the red warning ring is visible.
The carabiner should always be screwed shut in
use (1). Any constraint or catching reduces its strength
(2). When shut, the carabiner has greatest strength
along its long axis. Loading in any other direction
reduces its strength... (3).The strength of a carabiner
is greatly diminished if the gate accidentally opens (4).
For abseiling and belaying use only screw-gate
carabiners (5). When there is no risk of a free-fall
(top roping, glaciers...)it is permissable to tie-in using
a screw-gate carabiner (6).
Use forbidden when there is a risk of free-fall :
at the moment that the fall is arrested the load on
the carabiner may be across the gate, in which case
its strength is greatly reduced. The user of a type B
connector must not attach and remove it many times
during a working day.

because it depends on the environment where it
is used (mountains, sea, cave, canyon, sand etc).
However wear or damage could occur on the
first use which limits its life to that use. Surface
damage, corrosive wear, mechanical wear,
or impairment of the mechanical function of the
product is easily observed.
In addition to the checks before and after each use,
a detailed inspection must be carried out by a
competent person every 12 months.
