1 About these instructions
These instructions describe the safe use of the Battery Safe
Universal Case 40583 for transporting and storing lithium-ion
batteries and lithium-ion cells.
• Please read through these instructions before use and
retain them for future reference.
This instruction manual must be included if you pass on
the case to someone else.
2 Intended use
This case is a piece of hazardous goods packaging for
transporting lithium-ion batteries in accordance with UN 3480
and UN 3481, developed based on the requirements specified
in Special Provision 376 and Packing Instructions P 911 and
P 908 ADR 2021 for road, rail, inland waterway and maritime
transport (ADR, RID, ADN and IMDG code).
The product is a UN 4B case intended for Packing Group 1.
It has obtained the type approval of packaging designed
to carry hazardous goods or dangerous items as well as
a decision issued by the Federal Institute for Materials
Research and Testing (BAM), for the transport of damaged or
defective lithium-ion cells and lithium-ion batteries.
• The manufacturer does not accept any liability for any
damage resulting from improper use.
• If this case is used as hazardous goods packaging, it must
only be handled by trained personnel.
• Any modifications to the case that are not authorised by
the manufacturer will void the warranty and exclude any
liability of the manufacturer.
Any other uses are prohibited. The user of the packaging
bears sole responsibility for any risk of damage arising
from improper use.
3 General safety instructions
In addition to the general safety instructions, the general
markings on the product must be observed.
For use in hazardous goods transport, the respective
packing instructions must be observed.
WARNING
Risk of suffocation through smoke inhalation
in the event of a battery fire
Use only in a well-ventilated area.
Avoid inhaling any vapours.
Leave enclosed spaces immediately.
Evacuate and move far away from the affected area.
Alert the fire brigade.
WARNING
In the event of a battery fire, the outside of
the case may become hot and cause burns.
Do not touch the case.
Leave the danger zone immediately.
Alert the fire brigade.
WARNING
There is a risk of injury caused by hot or
melted parts being propelled outwards.
Only use the case if its interior fittings are complete
and intact.
Only use the case with its lid closed.
WARNING
Leaking electrolyte may cause chemical burns.
Avoid skin and eye contact. Do not inhale any vapours.
WARNING
Risk of electric shock through contact with bare
terminals.
Protect the battery terminals against short circuit.
CAUTION
Risk of crush injury due to the lid accidentally
falling shut
Open the lid completely.
