For B41 model: Connect the cord that came with the UPS to the AS/400. Then plug it into
an outlet on the back of the Fortress.

The UPS includes a logic interface connector to be connected to your AS/400 system. Plug
the end of the cable labeled "UPS" into the communication connector on the UPS. Plug the
end labeled "AS/400" into the connector labeled "UPS" on back of the AS/400 base cabinet.
If you reverse the cable ends, the AS/400 will power down immediately.
If this is the first time you have installed your AS/400, continue with the AS/400 System

Installation Instructions. Make sure you set QUPSDLYTIM, which is a part of the
AS/400's standard UPS monitoring feature. QUPSDLYTIM is a timer in the AS/400 that
tells the system how long to run on UPS power before shutting down. Each AS/400 system
has a default value for QUPSDLYTIM. To determine the default time for your system, or to
change the value, see the Uninterruptible Power Supply section in the IBM document
"AS/400 Advanced Series Backup and Recovery - Advanced." To find the Backup and
Recovery Guides on the Internet, go to the following location:
http://as400bks.rochester.ibm.com
Select the desired language in the Online Library.
Click on the desired OS/400 version and release (e.g., V4R3).
Click on Search for Books (upper right corner).
Enter the publication number (e.g., SC41-5304) and click on Find.
Click on the manual for the appropriate release.
Caution: *NOMAX tells the AS/400 to use customized shutdown software, and if none

Switch on the protected equipment, one unit at a time. If the UPS beeps an alarm when you
start your equipment, the UPS may be overloaded; go to the Troubleshooting section.
The bottom four lights on the front of the UPS show the percentage of the UPS' power
that your equipment is using. See Symbols, LEDs and Audible Beeps Section for more
information.

The RJ-11 or RJ-45 Surge Protection jacks will protect equipment that
uses an RJ-11 or RJ-45 connection. Plug the 10BASE-T network
connection (or phone, fax or modem line for B40, B42, B44, and "U"
models) into the surge protection jack labeled "IN" on the back of the
Fortress. Plug the protected equipment into the surge protection jack
labeled "OUT." Network cabling is not provided. Network only on
B41 and all "E" models; do not connect any TNV equipment such as
telephone, fax or modem to the circuitry. It may only be used for
network protection purposes, on E models. This connection is
optional. It is not needed to use the Fortress.
ENGLISH
is available it will immediately begin shutdown when utility power fails. Do
not set QUPSDLYTIM to "*NOMAX" unless you understand the implications
of the *NOMAX function as described in "AS/400 Advanced Series Backup
and Recovery - Advanced."
