SECTION 8 |
charger is in Stage 3 - Float Stage (Section 4.3.3), the battery will draw very low cur-
rent of approximately 0.1% of its Ah capacity [Ammeter (13, Fig 3) will show near zero
reading]. When the charger is in current limit condition during Stage 1- Bulk Stage (Red
LED marked "Bulk"/"I Phase" in the optional Remote Control 900-RC will be lighted)
or Stage 2 – Absorption Stage (Orange LED marked "Absorption"/"Uo Phase" in the
optional Remote Control 900-RC will be lighted), the current shown will be full 80A for
SEC-1280UL and 40A for SEC-2440UL .
8.3 USING THE CHARGER AS A POWER SUPPLY
8.3.1 Switch off the Charger. Set the Charger for 2-Stage Charging by setting DIP
Switches S1 & S2 (7 in Fig 3) in Off position (Tables 7.1 / 7.2 under Section 7.4).
8.3.2 Switch off the DC load. Connect the DC load between the common Negative
terminal (3 in Fig 3) and one of the 2 Positive terminals (1 & 2 in Fig 3). Ensure that the
maximum current drawn by the DC load is below the Bulk Stage Current rating of the
charger. Switch on the charger and then the DC load.
8.4 USING THE CHARGER AS A DC UPS
8.4.1 Switch off the Charger. Set the Charger for 2-Stage Charging by setting DIP
Switches S1 & S2 (7 in Fig 3.1) in Off position (Tables 7.1 / 7.2 under Section 7.4).
8.4.2 Switch OFF the DC load and connect it to the battery. Now connect the battery to
the charger as explained under Section 7.2. Switch on the charger and then switch on
the DC load.
Example: If the load current is > the Bulk Stage Current rating of 80A for SEC-1280UL /
40A for SEC-2440UL, the battery will discharge at discharge current = Load Current – the
Bulk Stage Current rating of the charger. For example, if SEC-1280UL is used to charge a
battery connected to 90A load, 80A will be supplied by the charger and balance of 10A
will be provided by the battery. Hence, although the battery will be connected to SEC-
1280UL, it will NOT charge but discharge at 10A.
8.4.3 In a DC UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) , the charger simultaneously powers
the DC load as well as the battery. As long as the AC power to the charger is available
and the charger is working normally, the charger will supply the DC load as well as
charge / float the battery. In case the AC power fails or if the charger stops working, the
battery will automatically power the DC load. As soon as the AC power to the charger
is restored, the DC load will once again be fed by the charger and at the same time the
battery will be recharged.
!
CAUTION!
For the battery to remain charged, please ensure that the sum of the current
drawn by the DC load and the current desired for charging the battery is less
than the Bulk Stage Current rating of the charger i.e. <80A for SEC-1280UL &
<40A for SEC-1225UL
