Do not place any containers fi lled with liquid, for example vas-
es, on or directly next to the article.

Never immerse the article in water or other liquids! It is only
protected against splashing.

Never touch the article with damp or wet hands.

Make sure that the USB cable does not become squashed or
bent and does not come into contact with hot surfaces.
■
Protect the article from heat, naked fl ames, extreme tempera-
tures, persistent moisture, wet conditions and collisions.

The article must not be used if it shows obvious signs of dam-
age.

The individual LEDs cannot be replaced.

Inserting / Changing the Battery
For battery operation, 6 x 1.5 V batteries, AA type are re-
quired. These are not supplied with the article.
1. Open the battery compartment (5): Grip and press down the
locking lug on the battery compartment cover. Lift up the cover
at the same time.
2. Take the used batteries out if necessary and insert 6 x 1.5 V
batteries of the AA type. Pay attention to the correct polar-
ity (+ / –).
3. Reattach the battery compartment cover and press it shut.
When you do this, make sure that the locking lugs sit in the
recesses which are provided for them. You must hear and feel
it engage.
Putting Into Operation
1. Unpack – Unpack all parts and check the items supplied for
completeness (see the "Items Supplied and Article Overview"
section) and possible transport damage. If you fi nd any dam-
age to the components, do not use them (!), but contact our
customer service department.
2. Attach or set up – Attach the article at a suitable height on a
wall using suitable fastening materials.
It is essential to follow the safety instructions for assembly
(see the "Important Instructions" chapter).
The article can also be set up on a fl at, dry surface.
3. Insert batteries / use USB cable – Insert batteries into the
article (see the "Inserting / Changing the Battery" section).
If the article is to be operated with the USB cable, connect the
end with the barrel connector to the barrel connector input (1)
on the article and connect the other end with the USB connec-
tor to a power source, e.g. a computer, or via a suitable mains
adapter that supplies at least 1 A (not supplied with the article)
at a plug socket.

4. Select and insert – Select the letters and symbols (4) you
want and carefully insert them into the rails (6) of the article.
Make sure when you do this that the letters and symbols (4) fi t
in the rails (6) at the top and bottom.
5. Switch on / off – To switch on the article, move the On / Off
switch (2) to position I.
To switch the article off again, move the On / Off switch (2) to
position 0.
Cleaning and Storage
CAUTION!

Under no circumstances should you use any corrosive or abra-
sive cleaning agents, rough sponges or knives to clean the
article. These could damage the surfaces.
1. Disconnect the article from the USB cable or take the batter-
ies out of the article (see the "Inserting / Changing the Battery"
section).
2. Clean the article and all accessories with a soft cloth and a lit-
tle mild detergent if necessary.
3. Thoroughly dry the article and all accessories before it is reas-
sembled and / or stored away.
4. Store the article in a dry place that is protected from sunlight
and is not accessible to children and animals.

Disposal
The packaging material is recyclable. Dispose of the pack-
aging in an environmentally friendly manner and take it to a
recycling centre.
Dispose of the article in an environmentally friendly man-
ner at a recycling centre for used electrical and electronic
devices. It should not be disposed of in the normal house-
hold waste. More information is available from your local
authorities.
The batteries should be removed prior to disposal of the
article and disposed of separately. To protect the environ-
ment, non-rechargeable and rechargeable batteries must
not be disposed of with normal household waste, but must
be taken to suitable collection points. Also note the relevant
statutory regulations governing the disposal of batteries.
