b) Power saving modes
You can change the time it takes for the barcode scanner to automatically switch to power
saving mode.
• From the main menu, select Setup > Sleep time using the right button / up arrow (3). Press
the left button / up arrow (5) to go back to the main menu. Press "ENTER" (trigger (4)) to
confirm your selection.
• Use the right button / up arrow (3) to set the time after which the barcode scanner automatically
switches to power saving mode. Press "ENTER" (trigger (4)) to confirm your selection. Press
the left button / up arrow (5) to go back to the main menu.
The barcode scanner also features a 'deep sleep' mode to save power after long periods of
inactivity.
• To enable deep sleep mode, press and hold the right button (3) and left button (5) for
approximately 8 seconds.
• To wake the scanner from deep sleep mode, press and hold the trigger (4) for approximately
8 seconds.
c) Meaning of the LED indicator (2) status
• Constant orange
Battery is fully charged
• Flashing orange
Battery is charging / low battery
• Constant red
Not connected / not ready to use
• Constant green
Barcode detected
• Constant orange
Barcode detected (for memory scan)
Pairing the barcode scanner with your mobile device via Bluetooth
Your mobile device must support at least one of the following Bluetooth profiles:
Bluetooth HID or Bluetooth SPP.
a) Configuring the Bluetooth connection
• Ensure that your mobile device and its operating system supports the HID or SPP Bluetooth
profiles. Enable Bluetooth on your mobile device. For more information, refer to the
instructions for your mobile device. Follow the onscreen instructions to pair your mobile
device with the scanner. The LED indicator (2) turns red to indicate that the scanner is in
pairing mode.
• To disconnect the barcode scanner from your mobile device, press and hold the left button (5)
for approximately 4 seconds.
• To wake the scanner from deep sleep mode, press and hold the trigger (4) for approximately
8 seconds. If the scanner is in power saving mode, press the right button (3) to switch it
back on.
• Select Main > Setup > BTsetup and confirm each selection with "ENTER" (trigger (4)) to
access the Bluetooth settings menu. The device name will be displayed on your mobile
device ("R-A29BCA"). For more information, refer to "How to Connect to Smartphone or
Tablet" on page 2 of the quick start guide.
• Select the type of Bluetooth device that you want to connect to: SPP device > HID device >
HID device // SPPdevice // dongle (press "ENTER" to confirm your entries). Always try the
HID profile first if you are not sure which profile your mobile device supports. You can also
use the SPP profile if it is supported by your mobile device.
• When the devices have finished pairing, "Setting...Completed!!!!" will be displayed and the
LED indicator (2) will turn off.
• If you are setting up the Bluetooth connection via a dongle, you will need to enter the
dongle's MAC address. You can do this by scanning the MAC address barcode on the dongle
housing. Select SCAN (trigger (4)) to confirm, and then scan the barcode. This completes
the Bluetooth setup.
"Off line !!!" will be displayed if the Bluetooth
is being uploaded. The LED indicator (2) will turn red. The device will attempt to
re-establish the connection and "...Linking!" will be displayed. Bring the barcode
scanner within range of your computer or mobile device. If necessary, repeat the
pairing process. The LED indicator (2) will turn on when the devices have paired
successfully.
• To reset the Bluetooth profile, scan the configuration barcodes in the "Reset Configuration
to Defaults" section on page 3 of the quick start guide. Ensure that you scan the barcodes in
ascending order (A1 to A4 or B1 to B5).
Scanning barcodes
Before using the barcode scanner, refer to "Configuring the scanner settings" for
instructions on how to configure the scanner.
• For instructions on how to switch from direct mode to memory mode, refer to "Switch from
Memory-scan to Direct-scan mode" on page 4 of the quick start guide.
• If you wish to use direct mode, select "Direct-scan" using the left and right buttons (3 & 5),
and then press the trigger (4) to confirm your selection. Open a document on your file
management device. The barcode will be inserted into the position where the cursor blinks.
• Position the scan window (6) at a sufficient distance and angle to the barcode (see "Technical
data"). Depending on the size and specifications of the barcode, you may need to adjust the
distance between the barcode and the scanner.
Hold the barcode scanner at the correct angle from the barcode.

• Press the trigger (4) to scan the barcode in direct scan mode. When the barcode has been
read, you will hear a notification tone and the LED indicator (2) will turn green. The barcode is
read automatically. If the scanner fails to read the barcode, the LED indicator will briefly turn
red and you will hear a different notification tone. The barcode information will be displayed
in the selected position on the mobile app.
"Off line !!!" will be displayed if the Bluetooth connection is interrupted during the
scanning process. The device will attempt to re-establish the connection and "...
Linking!" will be displayed. In direct scan mode, the barcode scanner will not scan
if the Bluetooth connection has been interrupted. Bring the barcode scanner within
range of your computer or mobile device. If necessary, repeat the pairing process.
• If you wish to use memory mode, select "Memory-scan" using the left and right buttons
(3 & 5), and then press the trigger (4) to confirm your selection. Scan the barcode and enter
the quantity using the right button (3) or by scanning a configuration code in the quick start
guide. For more information, refer to "f) Configuring the quantity input method". Use the
upload function to upload saved data to your file management device.
• Press "DEL" to delete the data from the last code. Select "OK" to confirm.
All saved data will be deleted when you switch from memory mode (memory-scan)
to direct mode (direct-scan). Prevent data loss by uploading your data to a computer
or mobile device. For more information, refer to "Switch from Memory-scan to Direct-
scan mode" on page 4 of the quick start guide. In memory mode, you can still scan
and save barcode information to the internal memory when there is no Bluetooth
connection.
a) Uploading saved files to your computer or mobile device
In direct scan mode, files are uploaded to your file management device in real time. If you have
scanned several barcodes in memory mode, you can upload the barcode files saved on the
scanner to a file management device.
• Use the right and left buttons (3 & 5) to select an option, and then press "ENTER" (4) to
confirm your selection.
• Select Main>Upload and follow the prompts to upload the files to the file management
software on your computer or mobile device. To delete uploaded data, press "ERASE"
and then confirm your selection. Select "ESC" to keep the files in the memory. For more
information, refer to "Upload data (Memory scan)" on page 4 of the quick start guide.
When you upload data, the barcode scanner gives you the option to set the data
transfer rate ("Speed"). For more information, see "d) Data transmission rate
("Output Speed")" in "Summary of settings".
b) Tips and instructions for reading barcodes
• Ensure that the barcode is clean before scanning it.
• The barcode must be fully visible.
• Keep the barcode scanner at the specified distance and angle from the barcode.
• To prevent incorrect results, check the settings each time you turn on the barcode scanner.
c) Displaying the onscreen keyboard
• To display the onscreen keyboard on your mobile device, scan the "Soft-Keyboard setting
code for Android / iOS" barcode on page 3 of the quick start guide. Select the barcode that
corresponds to your operating system (Android / iOS).
• After scanning the barcode, press and hold the left button (5) for approximately 2 seconds
to display on the onscreen keyboard. The Bluetooth connection will be interrupted.. Press
and hold the left button (5) for 2 seconds to hide the onscreen keyboard. The Bluetooth
connection will be automatically re-established.. Re-establishing the Bluetooth connection
takes approximately 5–10 seconds.
You can also access the onscreen keyboard when the scanner is in power saving mode.
• Press and hold the right button (3) for 2–3 seconds to place the barcode scanner in power
saving mode. Go to the onscreen keyboard on your mobile device to make entries.
• Press the trigger (4) to hide the onscreen keyboard.
d) Keyboard settings (countries)
The "US English" keyboard supports the full character set. Some characters are not supported
for other languages. For more information, refer to "Keyboard Country" on page 5 of the quick
start guide. This section contains the configuration barcodes and numerical codes for each
country.
• Scan the country barcode (page 5) and enter the numerical country code from the table.
• To configure the settings, scan the numerical barcodes in "Numeric barcodes for settings"
(page 6).
If you require all alphanumeric characters, ensure that you select the US keyboard
on your computer or mobile device.
e) Resetting the scanner
If the barcode scanner does not function properly or does not respond to button commands,
use a pointed object (e.g. a bent paper clip) to restore the default settings.
• Use the object to press the reset button (7) on the back of the scanner.
• The barcode scanner will restart.
