How the CO
Topper works
2
The CO
supplied by the CO
fertilizer system gathers in the Topper's collector. It is here that a CO
2
2
large contact surface the CO
quickly and effectively dissolves in the aquarium water. The amount of CO
2
bubbles leaving the integrated bubble counter hose per minute.
Whilst CO
diffuses into the water, other naturally-occurring gases penetrate into the gas bubble beneath the collector. These so-called waste gases are
2
considerably lighter than the relatively heavy CO
and therefore gather at the top of the collector. Here they are automatically drawn off in regular inter-
2
vals using the specially developed waste gas vent.
The heavy CO
on the other hand collects at the bottom in the gas buffer at the interface to the water. Thanks to the fully-developed design of the
2
Topper, the valuable CO
is used optimally.

How to install the CO
Topper correctly

1. Rinse the CO
Topper with warm tap water. Do not use detergent!
2
2. Plug the CO
supply hose onto the hose connector.
2
3. In the aquarium, select a spot with good but not too strong water circulation. The spot should not be too bright to prevent possible algae growth.
4. Using the two suction cups, attach the CO
Topper horizontally, with the opening facing downwards, at least 5 cm below the surface of the water.

Ensure that the waste gas vent is nnot obstructed by leaves, sludge, algae or such like.
5. Set the required amount of CO
on the needle valve of the pressure reducer. For this purpose please also consult the instructions for use provided
2
with the other components of your CO
fertilization system.

• Always protect your valuable pressure reducer against corrosion caused by intake of water! To do so, use only check valves designed for use in com-
bination with CO
, e.g. the DENNERLE CO
Special Check Valve. Normal air check valves may become brittle and leaky through contact with

within only a short space of time. Often this occurs unnoticed.

The right amount of CO
2
For magnificent plant growth, DENNERLE recommend a CO
content in the aquarium of between 15 and 30 mg/l, whilst between 20 and 25 mg/l
2
is ideal. The number of bubbles per minute required to achieve this CO
content depends on a number of factors (types of plants used, water current,
2
surface area/volume ratio, etc.). This is why it is always necessary to determine the CO
amounts for each aquarium individually.
2
Rule of thumb for the basic setting: start with approx. 10 bubbles per minute per 100 l of aquarium water, i.e. for a 200-l aquarium, for example, use
2 x 10 = 20 bubbles per minute.
Check the CO
supply and the CO
levels in the aquarium water regularly and adjust the CO
2

Warning: if necessary, only ever increase the CO
level gradually over the course of several days!

Please note: the more vigorously the surface of the water is set in motion (e.g. by filters, additional aeration), the more CO

verzamelt zich in de opvangbak van de Topper. Daar vormt zich geleidelijk een CO
