Brief explanation of the game:
There are 3 posts in the field (bases). A player has to first hit the ball with a bat or club and then run from base to base. Once all
bases are passed, he earns a point but if a fielder catches the ball before the player reaches a base and touches him (marks) then he
is out. When three players are out or two balls are caught, the teams have to swap over and the fielding team now bats. The team
that ends up with the most points wins.
Preparation:
Set out the field as shown in the example and stick the 3 pins in the ground. These are your bases. Place the home plate at the 4th
pin (this counts as 4th base).

Game rules:
Divide the players into two teams. This game is played in two 'halves'. In each half one team is the fielding team and the other team
is the batting team. A team consists of a minimum of 6 people and you need to have a referee.
Agree a set time for play before the game begins. Draw lots to decide which team will field first. Appoint a referee to decide on foul
hits, keep the score, etc.
Game play:
The batting team must stand in a row behind the home plate. The player at the front of the row is the batter; make sure there is en-
ough space between the batter and player who comes after him. The batter throws the tennis ball up, hits the ball into the field and
runs to the first pole (base). The idea is to hit the ball as far away as possible! This gives you the most time to run past all the bases.
When you pass base no. 4 you are 'in' and you have earned a point!
The fielding team must in any case stand 1 player behind each base. Fielders who have to stand by bases 1, 2 or 3 must stand
behind the base when waiting for a hit. The remaining fielders are spread tactically around the field. This team tries to catch the
ball and throw it as quickly as possible to the defender (marker) of the base. The players in the batting team are safe as soon as they
have touched the base. You are 'out' if the marker touches you with the ball before you were able to touch the pole. You must then
leave the playing field and join the rest of your team at the back.
Batting:
Each player may hit a maximum of 3 times. Choose either the club or the rounder bat for this - it's best for beginners to use the bat.
You cannot bat again after a valid hit even if you still have one or more turns to bat remaining. If a player misses 3 times he goes to
base no. 1 and the next player takes their turn to bat.
Running:
During each batting session the players in the batting team who are already standing at a base try to run from one base to the other
until eventually reaching 'home'. The fielding team can try to touch out the running players from the batting team if they have the
ball in their hands. Only one player at a time from the batting team is allowed to stand at any one base. So if you see that your
team-mate is coming towards you, you have to run!
