6. Performing Measurements

Start by examining the device and all necessary accessories for damage, contamination (e.g.
dirt; grease, etc.) and defects. Examine the test leads for cracked or frayed insulation and make
sure the lead plugs fit snugly into the instrument jacks. Do not perform measurements if there is
a problem with any of these factors.
a) Frequency Measurement
1. Press the POWER button to activate the device.
2. Select the appropriate range with the FREQ. button.
3. Select the gate time with the G.TIME button.
4. Connect the input signal with BNC connector A or B on the front panel according to the
intensity of the signal.
5. Put A.ATTN in the desired position. Press A.ATTN is the input signal > 300mV : it reduces
the number of mistakes since the triggering sensitivity of the input section is attenuated by a
factor of 20.
6. Read the frequency on the display and note the unit of measurement.
b) Period Measurement
1. Press the POWER button to activate the device.
2. Select the period mode with the A.PERI. button.
3. Select the gate time with the G.TIME button.
4. Connect the input signal with BNC connector A on the front panel.
5. Put A.ATTN in the desired position. Press A.ATTN is the input signal > 300mV : it reduces
the number of mistakes since the triggering sensitivity of the input section is attenuated by a
factor of 20.
6. Read the period time on the display and note the unit of measurement.
c) Total Measurement
1. Press the POWER button to activate the device.
2. Select the total mode with the A.TOT button.
3. Connect the input signal with BNC connector A on the front panel.
4. Put A.ATTN in the desired position. Press A.ATTN is the input signal > 300mV : it reduces
the number of mistakes since the triggering sensitivity of the input section is attenuated by a
factor of 20.
5. Put the HOLD button in the depressed position and read the total from the display.
d) Check Mode
The self-check mode provides a means of verifying the overall operation of the device with the
exception of the input section, the accuracy of the time base and the time base dividers used in
the period mode.
1. Press the POWER button to activate the device.
2. Select the check mode with the CHECK button.
3. Press CHECK. All segments of the display are lit in the following order : 0 → 9, "•", the LEDs
of the functions printed on the display.
4. Press the RESET button to stop the check.
