In May 1939, the most advanced armored reconnaissance car at the time,
the AB40, was officially presented at the opening of FIAT's Mirafiori plant.
Thanks to innovative features such as a four-wheel independent suspen-
Sion system and central placement of the spare tires to help it conquer
difficult terrain, the AB40 was superior to similar armored cars from other
countries. 1941 saw the introduction of the AB41 , which featured an RF3M
medium/long distance wireless radio with star antenna, an improved
motor, a Breda M35 20mm auto cannon, and two 8mm Breda M38
machine guns. The AB41 was deployed by the Italian African Police force
(API), cavalry units, Bersaglieri (Mechanized Infantry) Units, and armored
