Am 16. Juli 1969 um 9.32 Uhr morgens erfolgte der Start der
gigantischen Saturn V von Cape Canaveral, die bedeutendste Reisein
der Geschichte der Menschheit. Die riesigeSaturn V bestand aus drei
Hauptstufen,war 110 m hoch und wog 3.000 Tonnen.Sie konnte
eine Nutzlast v on 50 t befördernund erreichteeine Geschwindigkeit
von 112 km/Sekunde.Die 394.000 km lange Reisebis zum Mond
dauerte72 Stunden.NachErreichen einerniedrigenErdumlaufbahn
erhielt die ObereBaugruppemit der Apollokapselvon der dritten
Stufe der Trägerrakete den Schub zum Erreichen der
Fluggeschwindigkeitzum Mond. Später löste sich die Apollo-
Baugruppevon der Rakete, d rehtesichund zog die Mondlandefähre
aus der Schutzhülle. So aneinandergekoppelt gelangte diese Einheit
zum Mond und schwenkte auf eine
einigen Mondumläufen trennte sich die Mondlandefähremit den
Astronauten N. Armstrong und B. Aldrin an Bord von der
Kommandokapsel, in der nur derAstronautM. Collins verblieb.
Das Apollo Raumschiff,mit dem die Astronauten zum Mond
transportiert wurden, besteht aus 2 Komponenten, der Kommando-
Kapselund dem Servicemodul. D ie Kommandokapsel e nthielt den
Unterkunfts-/Cockpitbereich für die 3 Astronauten, sowie
umfangreiche elektronische
Sauerstoff- und Stromversorgung erfolgten vom Servicemodul aus,
das auch das Hauptantriebsaggregat enthielt, um in die
Mondumlaufbahn zu gelangen, aber auch für den Schub bei der
Rückkehr zur Erde sorgte. Die Kommandokapsel und das
Servicemodul waren während
zusammengekoppelt, das heißtauf dem Weg zum Mond und auch
bei der Rückkehr. Nur wenige
Erdatmosphäre wurde die Kommandokapsel vom Servicemodul
abgetrennt. Nur die Kommandokapsel kehrte zur Erde zurück und
landete an Fallschirmenhängend sicher im Pazifik.

On 16th July 1969 at 9.32 in the morning, the gigantic Saturn V took
off from Cape Canaveralon the most important voyage in the history
of mankind.The giant SaturnV consistedof three main stages,was
110 m highandweighed3,000tonnes.Itcould carrya payloadof 50
tonnes and reacheda speedof 112 km/second.The 394.000 km
longvoyageto the moonlasted72 hours.After a low orbit roundthe
Earthwas reachedthe top unit with the Apollo capsulereceived the
thrust from the third stageof the rocket that enabledit to reachits
cruisingspeedto the moon. Laterthe Apollo unit separatedfrom the
rocket,turnedand drewthe moon landingcapsule from itsprotective
casing. Coupledtogether in thisway this unit reached the moonand
turned into a lunar orbit. After
with astronauts N. Armstrong and B.Aldrin on board separated from
the command module in which astronaut M. Collins remained alone.
The Apollo spacecraft that carried the astronauts to the moon
consistedof 2 components:the command module and the service
module. The command
modation/cockpit section for the 3 astronauts and extensive
electronic communication systems.The oxygen and power were
suppliedfrom the service modulethat alsocontainedthe main power
plant, to enable the lunar orbit to be reached and alsoto provide the
thrust for the return to Earth. The command
were coupled together throughout the mission, that is on the
journeys both to and from the moon. Only a few minutes before
entry into the Earth's atmosphere the command module was
separated from the service module. The command module alone
returnedto Earthandlandedsafelyon parachutes in the Pacific.
